c6 door opener mod for a f-body
My buddy has his C6 and I love how you push the button and the door opens up. I am going to begin working on a mod for this for our cars soon. After I get the opener situation figured out I would like to redesign the handle bezel so the original handle is gone. I know I will have to have a backup way to unlock the door in case of power failure as well. Just wanted to see if you guys thought this would be a cool mod or not. Feel free to bash if you want I just thought it would be a pretty nice mod. Thanks for the feedback in advance!

I think you guys with the 4th gens might have to come up with a slight variance for the pocket in the quarter, it really shouldnt be too hard to do. Maybe a more oblong, oval pocket since your body lines are rounder. The pictures I posted are of another guy's car from over on TGO. He used some pull solenoids, and cables to release the doors. I like this idea because it doesnt require door poppers... You still have a place to pull the door open, so all you need to do is activate the part of the latch that normally gets pulled with the handle.
Switch is up to your imagination. Simple electrical circuit. Just like hooking up any other solenoid. Use a relay. And you could very easy build in a safety feature incase your battery dies.

I think you'd have to do something rounder like I said. Almost "french" it in. Use some tubing and graft it in at an angle creating a pocket. Doing it square like on the thirdgen just would probably be difficult to do cleanly and make it look nice.
I kind of like the shaved door handle look too... but with this, you get shaved handles, and non of the hassles of remotes, and recievers and poppers. You dont modify the door at all except to mount the switch, and mount the solenoid to pull the latch. Not saying one is better..just saying why I kind of dig this idea more. And I guess you still technically need a remote to unlock the doors, but most if not all of you guys already have keyless entry. So again..nothing extra to add.
Someone thats good with photoshop should mess around and see what kind of recess looks good on the 4th gens. THen all you need is someone thats willing to take the plunge and start cuttin...

What I am thinking about on the outside handle is to mold the current handle in and just make a little touch button inside it. Not quite sure how I wanna go about this yet. The electrical part of this will be easy it is just finding the best way to do the outside appearance wise.

Just a couple more pics of his working set up... One of the unpainted recess and door button area.
And two showing the solenoid mount, and how the cable is run up to the latch. Seems like its just a simple cable with a sleeve to keep it from cutting into anything. All the door needs is a quick tug on that little lever and it will almost pop itself open. Plus if you have alittle tension on it while you are pushing the button. Should open up smooth and easy.
