I think I would take the time to pull the motor, I'd rather spend the extra 2-3 days and so everything right. You're not going to be able to spray the firewall and a lot of areas correctly without pulling everything.

sure it dont seem to be too bad taped up the way he's got it.. most of the area you'll even see will be painted. tho yeah it would be best to just wait till you got the motor out.

I could see it for a show car, but if your going to go with a whole nother color its best to stay with in a few colors off the original color.. say you wanna paint orange but your engine bay is red or if your ride is black but you wanna paint red. this way it doesnt look AS bad tho it could look better. kinda tuff decision.

Me personally Ive been tryin to paint my ride for the past year and just havent done it for a few simple reasons.. couldnt choose paint color.. which I decided to go with Victory red. and 2 I didnt want to have to paint under the hood. They should match up pretty decently enough to get away with it I hope. and 3 I have a paint booth Ive built but know hardly anything about paint. Mixing. All very confusing to me.

Hope you get it figure it out!

anything that u can "see" is covered in shiny black paint. but yes there are spots that arent shiny that u could see with no motor in the car.

my only thing is say you decide to remove something that is there currently, the clear coat won't be there. Spend the time and do it right, kind of like trying to change the color on a car and leaving everything like the doors, hood, trunk, etc. on.

As you can tell... I removed the red/faded pink wire looms and went back with black.

What kind of paint did you use? Any more details on the procedure? More pics?

I used Dupli-Color paint from any auto parts store.

I just removed the headlights and all brackets, taped everything off, sanded a little, primered the spots where there was rust showing, ( I had a battery bust and leak everywhere).

I just followed the instructions on the can and did a little research on ls1tech. 4-5 coats of paint and about 4 coats of clear.

I don't claim to be a body/paint person but I enjoy working on my car so I always try it myself.

Here are a few pics:
