Those that have installed theirs, what's the best way to go about this?

You can't, well you can remove the insert, but it won't mate up tightly anymore. Jeremy @ Katzkin gave me a synopsis on how to do it. Here's what he sent me:
The best way to do it is such
1. remove the entire door panal from the car.
2. IF you can get the insert apart from the door (with out cutting and destroying the molding, then take them out). Sometime they are held in with screws, if not, and they are melted in with plastic clips, do not remove the insert.
If insert does not come out of the door panal then
1. mask off the plastic around the insert area
2. spray glue on the insert and the piece of vinyl, let sit until tacky, (1 or 2 min)
3. place the vinyl on the insert, make sure it is centered on the insert, leave some material on all sides hanging off.
4. smooth out the panal, start from the middle and work out (do this as you lay the vinyl down)
5. Use a flat head or somethiming aloing those lines to press the material around the edges, you cqan use a silver dollor or even your finger nail, wahetever, you just want to get a line around the insert.
6. Take scissors and cut the excess material off around the insert, REMEMBER leave a little material hanging off so you can tuck it in between the panal.
7. use a small flathead to tuck the material in between the insert and plastic door panal.
8. do that all the way around and thats it...
Let me know if you have any problems, I might be able to take some pics next week (if we do an install here) to give you more detail.

An auto uphostery shop here in KC, MO area basically told me the same thing as what Jeromy suggests and he will do it for $70.
He advised not to pull the panels.
Shop around, I was quoted $900 and $500, from two installers shown as resellers for Katzkin here in KC. Needless to say I won't be using each, since I found a third installer whose prices are reasonable and he does good work. He showed me some of his custom work, vs the other two who mainly have car dealers for clients. They never see their real clients (the customer who eventually buys the car).
But I will install seats front and rear myself and have the uphostery shop install the panels for $70.
It's will be my winter project.
Graphite grey and red is my choice for my Arctic White Z28 unless someone has some other color schemes they can post or suggest (white and black is out).

Oops...more explanation. The $500 and $900 was complete installation for the seats. Neither appeared to want my business.
The installer said cloth is not a problem when using the 3m adhesive to glue the new pieces on.

isn't it going to look "puffy"??
I called around, $70/hr, ~ 3-4hour job, F*CK that! lol
So we just install the vinyl over the cloth, that kinda sucks...:\

NP, I also sent Jeremy a picture of our stock doors to see if he can offer any insight on getting around the center door pull bar. I'll keep ya'll posted. I have an idea as to how to do it but I'd rather have confirmation from Jeremy, first.

Any update on this? I called around some to see about having someone do the doors, and the one place I talked to (a 'certified' Katzkin installer) wanted $150 PER DOOR. ![EEK !!](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_eek2.gif)
The rest of the interior is almost done...pics soon...
Shane...black/orange interior project...
