So am I drilling the peice of the bracket that goes into the fender? Or the middle peice connecting the two brackets?

I had the same problem when i was trying to fit my hood. in the end i just took it to my buddy's bodyshop and he did it for like $10 and turned out fine. Yes, you will have to elongate all of the holes on the hinges where they connect to the fenders so you can basically move the whole hinge/hood down. mess with the hood bumpers too a little bit and you'll get pretty good fitment.

That's not the thickness your seeing dude, its the edge of the hood. The actual hoods are pretty thin.
