Default Window dirt/spots, bah!

Hey all, Another question (yaa I'm just everywhere with questions but I'm in a car mood!)

I was wondering how you can really clean the windows up? I have tons of water spots and dirt just on there that I can't get off! It is like it is fused on there! Seems to be in spots where previous owners didn't care to bother with so much or didn't care to do anything! Like on the windshield, it is bad in the area where the the wipers can't get to. It is just horrid!

I love my Firebird, I just wish previous owners would have taken care of it better. Here is a pic to get a general idea on what I'm referring to. You can see it pretty easily. (Yes the car is dirty but is getting a bath tonight =P)

clay, then a good polish (don't even need a machine, just some decent elbow grease).

He shouldn't have to go that harsh to get it out. When I bought my car I had the same problem with lack of care by previous owner. Just a few motions with a microfiber pad and polish made it crystal clear

well I just tried a clay bar and then cleaning it good after with a MF pad. Sadly I did not get any good results. It looks just the same and I didn't even see any dirt really on the bar itself. Damnit!

So any other ideas while I go weep in a corner?

See post #5 by Fast_94_Z.

Look for #0000 steel wool. Be careful around the black rubber trim as it will scuff the surface.

It also depends how long the hard water spots have been on there. If it has been a while and they have been allowed to sit there thy might be there for good :-/

I'll go pick up some 0000 steel wool this evening if I can find it. Hopefully it does something. I'm also going to order a thing of Zaino Z-12 and maybe out of luck that will help as well.

I really hope they aren't stuck there for good. That will look so miserable to me all the time. I will update on how the steel wool and/or z-12 works. Is it safe to say that it would be fine to use these techniques on the t-tops as well?

steel wool gets anything out. but as said before, dont get it on your window mouldings cause then you'll be f'ed. use the wool, then get some good glass cleaners and you'll be good.

dont put steel wool on your side mirrors or on the inside of your windows if you have tint. hope that helps.

Try white vinegar to get hard water spots off of glass with a glass polishing MF.

Not so. It is very good and will usually get most things out that other products will not. I have a 2002 Avalanche that has the same spots on all 4 windows. I have tried everything including steel wool and nothing. So it is possible for them to be there for good unless you replace the window.

I think I got something working here. I bought a bunch of #0000 Steel Wool and at first it didn't do much (using just water). I then remembered reading someone using turtle wax tar and bug remover so I sprayed some of that on a few spots and let it sit for a few minutes. I took the steel wool to it and really put some power into it and it started to come off! It will take awhile but I think this is going to work! (still waiting on my Z-12 polish to get here).

I'll update later for further progress on how its coming along and for future reference if anyone has this problem. Just so I know for sure, steel wool will not affect the factory tint? (top of windshield, t-tops) I'll only be cleaning the outside surfaces. This is going to look great when it is done.. finally... hopefully.
