Default Roll Racing with A4?

I wasn't shure where to post this so if it's in the wrong sect. my bad well any ways my 02 ss is an A4 and the few times I've raced someone from a roll i've tried two ways I either leave the shifter in "D" and gun it and wait for the kick down and start playing catch up or I would but it in the gear that would kinda place me in the power band for example if its a 40 mph roll I'd place the shifter in 2nd and it launches pretty hard but then i have to slap it into "D" I dont have a stall or anything yet is that my problem well any advice you guys got is appreciated
Thanks Marcus

I just leave my car in drive and the passing gear will kick it down for you.Let you tranny shift for you so you won't hit the rev limiter.

Ya i do that but im not shure if its just my car but that kick down seems to take a while any suggestions on fixing that i mean it seems normal same amount of time as my silverado with the same tranny dont get me wrong jumps good when it does kick down but i guess what im looking for is any suggestion on getting that 1 to 1 feeling of a manual.

I think there is a kick down cable adjustment i just don't know where. If you go to the auto.tranny section they should have a section how to adjust it.

Tune. It'll never feel like a manual, but you can stiffen the shift points and change the %'s and mph at which it switches gears. If you havent tuned her yet, youll be very surprised at the hp gain you'll get too.

I always left my car in "D" when I raced. Best place to race in your A4 is 25mph and 55mph. Leaving it in "D" and going from a 40mph roll will result is a quick death, lol.

I wouldn't try to shift a manual. My tranny can't keep with the quick revs no matter how early i shift and I bump the rev limiter.

^^^^ Hurricane is right if you are 3.23 geared.

A stall will help a lot too. If I hit the sweet spot on my Yank it kicks down to 4800 or so because of the shift extension and if it doesn't break loose I am gone in a hurry!

Not on these Transmissions bro..they are all Electronic. Unless it's a TH350, TH400, or any other Tranny that is not Electronic, they will do it themselves.

I bley my last Auto Tranny up on an over-rev..broke traction, hit the limiter and lost 3rd & 4th..yea it pissed me off, but that was my push for the T56.

I am thinking of doing this too (A4), but wonder if it might eventually do damage to the transmission????

Not that I really roll race at all, but for future referance, what are the best speeds for a 2.73 (what I currently have) and 3.73 geared car?

slap a 4000 stall in your car and forget about those manual cars man haha.

i have a 3600 right now and i really want more, drives like stock probably because im used to it.

the sweet spots for my old lt1 were also 25 and 55. 40mph is TERRIBLE in a header LT1 with 2.73!!

Im still stock stall and 2.73 geared. It still has some *** starting the race at 75! Most of my seat time is either steady state or bumper to bumper-I hate the Hampton roads btw. I dont get much play time at speeds under 55. Cant help ya much in the area of opinion.
