Default 700R4 locks up in 2nd.

Just rebuilt a 700r4 for my DD. Heres the problem. When the fluid is warm it shifts like a dream but when it's cold, like first thing in the morning, the TCC locks up in 2nd and stays locked through all the gears. Even with NO power going to the solenoid. As the fluid begins to warm up, it gets better. For example. If I'm easy on the gas it unlocks, but when I give it gas and the rpms increase, it locks back. I know that has an affect on the pump speed. My question is could the TCC valve be installed backwards cause this? Could there really be enough dirt in the TCC solenoid to cause fluid to back up and build enough pressure to lock the TCC? This is driving me nuts. Obviously cold fluid has a lower viscosity than hot fluid. I'm afraid the sun shell is going to go snap again if I don't fix this soon. Being locked through all the gears has to put alot of shock through the trans. I don't have a pressure gauge. The trans is a 1991 model. You guys have got to help me!!!!

I would check that the TCC valve moves freely in the bore which can be done under the car and replace the tcc solenoid and you are right to be concerned about breaking something

I'll check that out. Had to modify one of my snap ring pliers to get up in there last time. It's around here somewhere. I first thought it was the TV valve till I noticed it had a "5th" gear.
Gets great gas mileage though. thanks

Got under it tonight. The valve moves fine, but I think I blew something out off the solenoid. Once I got it all back together. It did fine driving around the block.
But tomorrow morning will tell if I actually did anything.

Well that didn't do anything. It still locks when cold. Round 2 me vs trans

Yeah I swapped it with one in my other trans that I thought was good. Same thing. Would just leaving it out hurt anything? To see if it is the culprit? It was warm one day last week and shifted like a dream, no problems. It just hates cold weather, but lately I've just been letting it warm up before I drive it.
It has a TCI shift kit in it set for "Heavy Duty", no hard shifting just firm and more pronounced than stock. But I don't remember doing anything to the TCC or it's valvetrain. Maybe I did, I don't remember. I'll have to find the directions again. Out off all the 700's I've been into, this is the first one to have any problems, let alone a problem I can't figure out. L

p.s. A little tip. Don't forget the pump to case gasket when assembling or you'll be kicking yourself when you see it after torquing down the pump bolts.
