Default Which converter?

OK here is (I'm hoping) not the usual "pick a converter thread". I just got a Formula with bolt ons - minus LS6 intake (3.23s in it). It will be getting that as well as a full tune. Its got a Fuddle in it currently which will be coming out. I am looking for the ultimate converter since its such an expensive and key part of the equation. I was leaning towards the triple-disc one from RPM Transmissions that can lock at WOT.

Is that something that will improve ET?

Do any sponsors make one like that? I'm leaning more towards performance than streetability, although not too far.

I had a PT4000 in my Z with 3.73s so I'm used to "loose" converters. No rush as its in storage til the snow melts. I want to be ready when the time comes.

I prefer yank converters myself. I would say call dave up at yank and he will build you whatever you need. But the vigilante converter from rpm wouldn't be a bad way to go either since you get one free restall or refresh.

I always recommend EDGE just because I have never rode in a car with one that didn't perform well, and I love mine. Also there customer service is excellent and you can’t beat the 1 year warranty.

Another vote for Yank....I've had three and they've all performed flawlessly. You said you had a PT4000? Why not use that again? PT series converters are hard to beat.

How about FTI in this poll..We build competition converters and we can build a converter to work for you. See what our customers say. https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...oes-again.html Our website has info covering these converters as well.
Thanks,
Greg

I'd look into something from Ultimate Converter Concepts. Like most converter companies, they can build something specific to your setup, and for your goals.

Your car sounds very close to the 2000 SS we just got. I did all the bolt ons and while I was at it we added the Circle D 4C (~3600 stall at our weight and power level) and a Circle D Built 4L60E. It feels good around town, but has pulled 1.5 60fts at the track. It's not near as loose as the PT4000, but you can tell you have a stall it there.

It's the ultimate set up IMO. It ran 7.37 in the 1/8th and drives like stock. That's all motor. We get to have our cake and eat it too

If you plan on a bigger cam and want a little bit looser, yet efficient converter the 4.5C or 5C will rock ya hard!

Circle D also specializes in multi-disc lock up converters. I have locked up our 5C in our quicker car and picked up a couple mph, but the ET didn't improve much. I think a power adder car would see a sizable gain locking it up on the top end. We just don't do the power adder thing.

Good luck!

That was mostly what I was looking for, whether or not that would make difference. I'm not going to put a cam in it. I would like to get 11s on the stock cam and 3.23s but its not a big deal since the nearest track is 260 miles away and I won't be there every week, it would just be nice knowing its capable of that.

I have one score to settle ('69 Mercury Cyclone 434ci big block pretty quick). Also there is someone with his 4th Mustang - supposedly blown - and I have smoked his previous 3, so I'd like to be able to beat him again.

I'm thinking something in the 4000-4400 range. I wanna do it once and do it RIGHT!

Bolt-ons+Sticky tires+5C= Spanking that a$$

I would not change the 3.23s. They are very strong and the 5C will make up for the lack of gear.

They won't know what hit them.lol.

I've had 3 different Yanks in my car over the years a 3600/4000/4400 they all performed well at the track. With that said as you can see in my sig I switched to a Circle D and am VERY pleased with the way it performs. Neutron bomb 60 foots and locks the power down upstairs as evidenced in my MPH. I will also add the customer service from Chris is top notch. He dealt with many phone calls and questions from me before I pulled the trigger. He built me a perfect converter for MY setup also evidenced by my timeslip improvements and new PB'S. My car has always been about performance from day 1 and has never disappointed me and adding the Circle D has kept that tradition going. This is a company you wont regret going with.

you are the reason i am a believer in circle D, to be able to pull that 60ft and keep the mph is what is key...most other converters will only give you one or the other...i am very impressed with that 60ft and mph...

with that said i would probably only go with what i have yank ss4000 pulling 1.38 fts cam only 3275 racweight...or the circle d described above...

what size was that circle d again?

Just a heads up the rpm is a VIG. We currently have three preferred vendors on our site. Take a look at all of them as they are all good choices. We currently have a FTI piece at the shop that will be dyno'd with the customers unit. Looked like a decent piece from the outside! I really can not vote in this thread for obvious reasons. Vince

I have a Yank SS4000 1.60 60ft - 12.2 110mph 1/4 and love it, those numbers for the Circle D are very nice as well, we will have to try that one in out next 4l60E build. I will say STAY AWAY FROM FUDDLE..they are junk.
