Default What converter?

I am getting my tranny rebuilt and was told they need to install a new converter. The place doing it says they want to use another stock one, but I have heard to go bigger in this case. I was looking into a 3200 to 3500 stall should I upgrade now or just go with what they recommend, they say with what I have done to the car I will see no benefits from going bigger now? I have race headers, an off road y pipe and corsa catback, that is the extent of my mods as of now. I do plan on getting a magic stick 4 as well as some new heads from Texas speed but that will be a few years from now. Should I do a new converter now or wai until then.

A stall converter is the best bang for the buck mod you can get and now is the time since the labor is free and it'll make your car feel like a whole new animal.

A 3200-3600 rpm stall would work well for your current mods and compliment the new cam when that happens. I'm very partial to the Circle D 4C for nice street manners and over all performance. You won't be disappointed.

do not put the stock one back in. A 3600 would work great. Check out the sale thread.https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...s-packege.html

Circle D has the most amazing customer service Ive dealt with in the performance world. They also make a seriously quality product that will serve you well. Give Chris a call and you wont be disappointed. Personally I (and Texas Speed for that matter) recommend a 4,000+ stall for a cam like the MS4.

Good luck!

Do a 4C now to match your current set up and then use your free Circle D restall down the road when the big cam is installed...problem solved

How big of a stall can I go to without getting the car tuned? Do I have to stay factory for this or can I get a higher stall and still be ok without doing this?

anywhere from 36-4 should be nice on a stock motor.

Well my car is supposed to be done on Monday, have to say I am very disappointed with the transmission shop that I took the car to. First off I talked to them about ordering a FLT or PerformaBuildt Transmission and they talked me into letting them rebuild it. I decided it couldn't be a bad option because I heard from my gf's dad that they do very good work and he has never heard anything bad about them. So I had it put on a flat bed and taken there since I was two hours from home. I got a phone call the next monday to tell me what they found, said my 3-4 clutched went out and they were going to do a rebuild and would need to install a new torque converter as well. He insisted I go with the stock stall again and I told him no I want a 3600 single disk stall. He told me that they ordered their converters directly from Precision Industries and he would call them to see what they recommended for a stock motor to keep in my powerband for street driving. About an hour later I got a phone call saying that he talked to them and they recommended a 2200 stall and no greater than that without a performance cam and a tune. So I settled with that. I then e-mailed Precission Industries who told me they have never heard of this shop, don't supply parts to them and never talked to this mechanic that I talked to. I am pissed, what is a person to do now? Any suggestions the car is supposed to be ready to pick up Monday? Also on a side note I told him to put in a 24000 GVW transmission cooler and he told me he had a 19000 GVW and it was not necessary to do the 24000 it seems like everything I want he tells me is overkill any feedback on this as well would be nice.

This guy should be putting in what you ask for, regardless if he agrees with it or not. I would refuse the work unless the put in the stall and cooler you want.

there are two different precision's. One being Precision industries in Tenn, which is who buids the performance converters and a company called precision torque converters out of New Hampton Ia. Not trying to defend anyone but I thought I would fill you in. The one from new hampton is a stock converetr builder thatr supplies stock converetrs for alot of stock rebuilder type shops. Bottom line is it doesn't matter what they want as you are the customer and it is what you want!!!
