Stock LS1 A4's are miserable, IMO. Stall, shift kit, and tuning are mandatory if you want to enjoy the car. That contrasts with my LT1 A4 which was great stock with the performance button that made for crisp shifts.

Stalled A4's will almost always get there before M6's with equivalent mods. Yes, better et's which equates to winning races. I remember getting beat by an M6 12.47@114 vs. my 12.61@107. He was cammed and making a ton more power and just barely nosed me out at the top end.

I owned plenty of m6's and when I got my a4 stock, I thought it was pretty snappy and definatly held its own without the tune. I also got a a4 LT1 and I thought it was a pretty responsive trans. Now, im not saying all autos are good, a ford AOD trans kinda sux lol. My friend had one, and with a shift kit it was still a dog, it wouldnt even down shift haha

After I installed the Diablo with increased shift firmness and speed I enjoyed the A4 even more. Feels strong and crisp now, very much "woke up" the trans.

Yeah at the time full bolt-ons, 3.73 12 bolt, 2800 stall and about 3350 race weight. If you look at the hood it is black, i just made the trip to chicago to get the hood, then drove to gateway to run the car, about 680 miles in a day and ran my first 11sec 1/4 internally stock

You think just having a auto people give you a hard time.... lol.... try being in my shoes. I took my M6 out to install a FLT 4L80E. Most people look at me like Im nuts... the ones that really know whats up usually say something like "sick, what stall you going to run?"

A few have already said it.... the ones that know what is what know why Im going auto.. the rest just dont have a clue.

I drive an auto, and love it. I also have a CTS-V (6-speed) and love it too. I have a 3200 Vigilante Stall in mine, and it makes the car soooooo much fun to drive. I feel confident racing a M6 of equal mod's almost anywhere in the power band/speed.

Overall drivability both win
Fun to drive M6 win
CONSISTENCY at the track Auto win
Dependability from what I've seen M6's have to deal w/rear ends and Clutches....A4's have to deal with beefing transmissions up and getting a stall.

One reason that Manual's win on the "street" or from a roll can be somewhat blamed on the gear ratio. The stock gear ratio is 3.42/3.73 for Manual Rear ends, whereas 2.73/3.23 for Auto's. Gearing in the transmission for 1st gear is higher in an auto than it is in a standard. However, the gear ratio is lower when you compare 2/3/4th gear in Auto/Manual transmissions. That's a physical advantage that can't be changed.

No, it would not be equal.

M6s arent as quick out of the hole but pull harder on the top end, this is another reason they are faster from a roll..
A4s are quicker out of the hole but dont pull as hard on the top end..

m6s for high traps or roll racing
a4s for quicker ets or real racing

hope that helps you understand a little better how A4s and M6s run at the track..

When building a car, figure out what you want to do with the car. As for me I changed from Th350-T56. Bc I decided I wanted to have something that would be reliable, won't be turning 3k @70 and is good from a roll. So that's my reasons.

Well now I'm ready to go to the track, so i'm building an A4 LSx mustang coupe.

A few earlier posts claiming that the A4 is less reliable than the M6... ???

I found this in the FI section...

https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-in...h-6-speed.html
I haven't really driven my car right since I put in the new motor/turbos, because everytime I get everything running 100%, I blow the tranny or some other bullshit.

here is a recap of events since this new setup:
-60-130 jan 08, broke t56
-60-130 march of 08, broke t56
-1/4 mile run April 08, broke t56
-1/4 mile december 08, blew clutch
-Feb 09, bent axles...out for a test drive, did one pull, felt awesome, like it hasn't felt in well over a year, I guess the ic pipe had been off for a while lol, second pull, rolled on from 2nd gear and BAM! G"IGDKFSHLYH4$E"Gkkehgegw%T$H broke the t56 again it literally didnt' last 1/2 mile from my shop...

wow...its funny i fiind this thread!haha im bout to trade my 98 TA "M6" full bolt ons and cam for a 01 vette "A4" few bolt ons and cam...I am taking so much **** about it from the guys i hang out with! ALL M6 drivers of course! All kinds of bullshit like my roll races are gonna suck, and how A4s are shitty...all kinda stuff. Funny thing is, the one person that has pretty much the fastest car in the group (99 formula running 10.xx) DRIVES AN A4!!!!hahahaha

I AGREE 100% with "M6 impress highschoolers and A4s WIN RACES!!"

Also, while were on the subject!!haha the vette im getting has a 2800 stall from Summit. Anyone running similar setup? What can i expect??

yeah, I am so adjusted to believe that the M6 is better. But I never argue my A4, its just not a matter of explaining. The a4 is down right perfect, BUT the M6 is fun, no no no i dont want to BE connected or be in control I dont canyon race the A4 is fun to me anyways.

can someone explain the stall just driving in normal every day circumstance, looks like in the video its not shifting, looks like you are going through the gears yourself, are you in drive or is that the stall? do they shift at what the stall is? please explain. i now seem really interested in the stalls.

My PT4000 will jump to about 2500-3000 at low throttle and it will stay right there. There is really no indication that shifts are taking place. The one in the video seems to drop a little at the shifts, so I would say that his stall is a little tighter than mine.
