Default 4l80e fourth gen f body swap guys with aftermarket pans

Anyone running aftermarket 4l80 pans from tci, derale ,etc and if so how is your ground clearance? Is your car at stock height or lowered.

I am running stock height and thining to put a different pan on my car .Most seem to be a fair bit deeper than stock.

So would like to hear from some of you guys that are running aftermarket pans.

if you want the extra cooling/capacity of a deep pan, I suggest a larger trans cooler before that. the larger cooler will have the same effect and not cause you any ground clearance issues. if your trans is still gettin hot, then add a fan to your trans cooler.

but, I have looked into it, and I could run a deeper pan on my 94 w/4l80E without having issues with ground clearance. however, you dont want to have to worry about it all the time when driving, do you?

EDIt: my car is lowered 1.5, and my engine configuration/placement is also lower than LSx/Ltx engines.

I have a stock pan and a big B&M cooler. It runs 160s in the 100+ summer heat. Only hit 200 once, and that was 2 hrs of stop and go traffic.

I have a pretty loose 3500 stall/3.00 gears. I do have a fan on the cooler, but still haven't hooked it up since it runs pretty cool.

I have some space issues on my car with the turbos and all that so am thinking to run thru my ron davis rad and into auxillary cooler. I have put a big dual pass 24 inch tubular type behind my air dam and might drill some cooling holes in the dam to give it a bit more airflow. By itself ,no rad cooler, it don't seem to be doing that great. Also since do drive the car at colder times of year in spring and fall felt likely good idea to go thru the rad as well.

The pan would be one more thing that could do depending on how the rad and auxillary work.So far seems all the aftermarket pans are deep style and most quite a bit deeper .
I do think rossler maybe has modifed one with big more clearance that think uses for his transbrake.

My car was seeing a steady 200 yesterday on a drive. the cooler on it now is a cheap Hayden though. I should have a stout setup by the end of this weekend. I was looking at the Derale pan but haven't heard of anyone using it.

My stall is a 3400 with a 3.23 gear.

Mine is the big B&M 29,200 GVW cooler. Not going through my radiator (it would actually heat up the trans fluid).

I ditched the Radiator cooler like three years ago.

Do you get the p0740 code in your 60-80 car slow67?

MM are you still driving that car on the street on a regular basis? I was looking at putting my cooler in that same location.

Just got my Derale cooler in today this thing is sweet.

The moroso pan is deep and the notch is nice but no cooling fins on it and no cooling tubes like the derale so can't really see how it would do much for cooling. A bit more capacity would do a bit I guess.
And yeah that don't look like enough cooler if thats the only way and in that location can't see it getting that much airflow really.

I will see how it goes with the ron davis rad with built in cooler and the aux on my car. I will hold off on getting a pan until that is done. It would be nice if few companies would offer a lower profile but at least finned cast aluminum pan. The deep ones might be ok but I like all the ground clearance I can get even with my car close to stock height. Thin the iron block and turbo kit weight brings it down some from stock.
But our roads suck bad here so ground clearance is a good thing.

i use the car quite often. it has been parked through the winter i pulled the engine and trans for a refresh. engine was in real good shape, trans has some concerns which will be a separate post to explain what was found after two years at 1200hp and what we did to prep it for 1400hp

when it is together as in the past it certainly does get used!

no i dont run it through my rad, as said the rad is 180* give or take and i prefer my trans temp always be below that.

this cooler is mounted ahead of the radiator offset to one side

Thanks for the reply. I am trying to find a place to mount mine but don't have much room in there with the IC and the radiator in stock location but laid forward more.

Hi I know its an old thread and a little off subject, but I want to put a 4l80 in my 99 formula, just blew up the ls1 and going to go turbo 5.3 or 6.0 LQ9/4, Will the 4l80 go in without any mods to tunnel, will it just bolt right up like I hope it will?
Thanks, MS

no you will need to mod the tunnel just like any other f body has had to do.

you may be able to just jam it in there if you are running it full manual, however.
