I would like to see tests done on converters. That would be very interesting.

But I still believe you get what you pay for in most cases.

How many other guys are running these ptcs?

Well it sounds like you already have your mind made up. So you think they are buying stock 4 cylinder converters and welding on adapter plates to fit the V8 rear wheel drive cars? WOW.. Enough said good luck man!

yes they probaly are doing that im sure they are restalled and modified and not just painted and thrown together as is. I wouldnt trust that converter being locked up at wot. Im not saying its a bad converter i have really no idea. I wont to go with something that is proven in lt/ls 4l60e if ptc were that great people here would all have them and love them and recommend them here. There are many non sponsor companies that people love like edge racing converters and precision industries vigilante. so i wouldnt say there sponsor nut swingers there going with whats proven. to get back to the topic i wanted to know which of the three you would go with not go with a ss3600 or a ptc.

For all who dont even know what a billet converter is and why its so beneficial to a street car. Big lock-up clutch means reliability for a primary STREET driven car. These are beautiful CNC'd works of art IMO.

I can guarantee you this isn’t the case and if you truly believe that you are foolish. Good luck man!! You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink. Yanks are nice converters to..

I had friends that had the Yank ss4000 converter in there car (pretty much the same engine mods as me) and was only going 11.40-50's He pulled the Yank out of his car and put in a PTC 4000stall and picked up 3 tenths and about 3-4mph. It made that much of a difference in his car. You can do what you want man. It's your money. Ask anyone with a stock bottom end full weight F-body and see what they run. I take my info from the guys that are going fast and know what they are talking about. Hope this helps. Good luck.

And to this guy up top. Just because a shirt cost $100.00 does it mean that it is better than a $50.00 shirt? Or are you just paying for the name?

Those are good results bro!!! not saying that PTC is cheap, its just that you see alot of guys going cheap on a converter thinking they are gonna get a deal and then they post up a thread " HEY WHATS WRONG WITH MY TRANNY".. the thing is you will see alot more people happy with a yank, Vigialnte, Circle D converter and not very little on PTC.

Thats very important. My car is mostly street. Its obvious that there was a reason why the other named company is much cheaper.

Hey Eric, you dont even know the difference between a flywheel and a flexplate. Jeez, i dont think you qualify to give any advice in the auto trans section based on that alone. You're a joke

I had to end up buying a TCI flywheel for my car to make the converter bolt up. Good luck man.

The story is, I bought a PTC built torque converter and th350 from them a few months ago to replace the 4L60E tranny that was already in the car. When Shane (at Thunder Racing) went to install the transmission we noticed that the converter wouldn't line up to the factory fly wheel. So we had to install a TCI fly wheel to make it fit. I called Kenny over at PTC and told him what was going on and he gave me an instant credit for the cost of the fly wheel. We get everything installed and found that we where having trouble with the shifter going into gear with the factory shifter. Again I called Kenny about buying a shifter and he shipped a TCI Thunder stick shifter to Thunder racing free of charge to me. I was completely blown away by this and you can bet they now have a customer for life. I also want to thank Shane and John over at Thunder Racing for putting up with all my nagging and gripping and helping out with all of these issues. Thunder has gone above and beyond to keep this suspension and transmission swap on budget for me and when I tell you they do top notch work, they are second to none! Thanks guys, everything looked great when I went to check on my car yesterday. I do have one question though. How the hell do you guys stay so clean when you are working on someone’s car? I get grease from my head to my toe and these guys don't even have grease under the finger nails!! LOL Thanks again guys for all the help! It doesn't matter if you are broke like me or if you have a tone of money to spend on your car PTC or Thunder Racing will treat you the same.
Thanks

Dude that post was from 6-24-10. You just got your PTC converter. Who's the nutswinger now?

You dont even have a lock-up converter, how are you giving advice to someone who is in the market for a full lockup street driven converter??

Yank, Circle-D, Precision all make good converters.
There are dozens of other converter companies who also make an excellent quality converter.
Dynamic, Chance, Coan, ATI, Edge, Pro-Torque, TCS, PTC, Hughes, etc.

PTC has an EXCELLENT reputation for their racing converters. They don't have it on their site that I can find but they have been in lots of record setting drag cars over the last few years. Lots of the drag radial guys having very good luck with them.
They also have developed an excellent rep in the TurboBuick community over the last couple of years. Low single digit slippage at WOT while allowing a little V6 with a huge turbo to spool. There's probably not a much harder combo to build a converter for than that.
However, I don't think they really cater to the lockup converter customers.
No multi-disc lockup units AFAIK.

ATI has a longstanding rep with the stock eliminator and Super Stock guys. Lots of record holders.

Typically you do get what you pay for, and converters are no exception.
However you do sometimes find a company providing a good product that may cost somewhat less and you get as good as or better product, so doing a little research is due diligence on your part.

I've noticed that converters have "markets".
In the late model market, like LS1, Mod motor fords, etc, Yank and PI are popular.
Older Pontiac guys like Continental.
Drag Radial and SE U.S. guys, PTC is popular.
NHRA stock classes, ATI is popular
Really high power 5-8 second cars you see Ultimate, Chance, Hughes, and PTC.

Nothing wrong with any of these companies. They've all earned their reputation by providing the customer with a good product that does what the customer wants.

You are right man as PTC hasn't been around as long as the others. I was just making my recommendation. Thanks bro.
