The common p1870 code?? Need help noob with transmissions
Told me it was throwing this code p1870 and that meant the transmission was slipping, he said to check the oil and it seemed fine
As far as I know, the car came with a tranny cooler, since its on top of the radiator, and transmission fluid seems fine, any advice??

they sell a kit to fix that and you need the reamer
there is only 2 types of 4l60e's ones that need a rebuild now and ones that are going to need to be rebuilt lol
It isn't too hard... I did have a friend who was familiar with the transmission guts help me (plus his work has a lift which made it 10x easier). I didn't use that Sonnax kit though, I used the transgo SK-4L60E. Costs just slightly more, but also upgrades springs and stuff, making shifts a little firmer and quicker. That trans has 161k on it right now and works great.
Transgo also makes higher performance kits like the HD-2 but that is more involved to do.
Just a note - there are some replacement springs in the Transgo SK-4L60E for the 2-4 servo, but that servo can be a bear to get out due to its location on the trans in relation to the trans tunnel. Had to drop the trans a few inches to get enough clearance to get the cover out.
If you don't want to tackle the install yourself, a trans shop should have no problem installing it for you.
tranny cooler isn't thought of, until that mod. Aftermarket
converters are usually weaker int he clutch and can need
more holding TCC pressure, while the stock tune runs at the
minimum line at cruise and "slip learning" gives the TCC the
bare minimum to hold on.
You would really like to know whether it's TCC slip or friction
slip, before you go tearing into things. There's a lot that can
be done from the keyboard, if it's really just a pressure
problem against an unrepresented aftermarket part.

can give you a low "load" (airflow) reading and pull back
line pressure too.
You might pull the inspection cover and look at the
converter. If it's painted, it's aftermarket.

could this affect it?? how i find it kind of odd??, also wet sand some of the throttle body not a lot though
battery to reset everything, and see if the trans gets
back to working like stock.
That much hogging will definitely bend your airflow
readings, which the PCM uses to figure load and set
line pressure.
more than (if I recall) 10 seconds. If you lose lockup
again on the next long Interstate grade or on-ramp,
don't be too surprised. A starved converter will act like
that.
You might take this "quiet time" to put some things
closer to right.
