Default Pulled my tranny!!

Finally...damn car is up like 2 1/2 feet on stands!! What a pain in the ***...but I knew it...3rd time pulling it, so I got a question though. Instead of taking the stupid clips off the tranny cooler lines I just undid the nuts that were there. Is this gonna give me any probs later on?? I hate messing with those clips. I was thinking it shouldnt matter, they gotta come off!! So let me know....anybody got a 60 and conv laying around???? I had a tci...trannys been good for bout 4 years since I put it in...few track passes....but after reading....eveybody seems to be doggin tci....I guess im in the market for a better tc too

Personally I have always removed the clips. What I would do in your case is remove the fittings from the lines and reinstall them in the trans when you go to install it. Make sure to use some sealer so they do not leak from the threads. Always install the clip back on the fittings before installing the trans. This way you just have to push the lines into the fittings until they snap in place. I do however always tighten the clip up with a pair of pliers by squeezing the ends a bit this way they will be tight on the fittings. Here are a couple video's I put together when working at an old job. Hope this helps. Vince

over the years ive learned to position the clips in a way that allows them to be pushed off with ease. But my car has a bit more room in the tunnel than yours.

What i read about some people doing was cutting the lines on a straight part, flaring both ends of the line, then reconnecting the lines with some rubber hose. that way you dont have to mess with the clips at all, just undo the clamps and remove the hose.

Ouch no rubber hose just deal with the clips they can be a pain but cutting lines and running rubber hose is just asking for trouble seen rubber hose break or leak fuild on hot exhaust can set fire.

oddly enough, my external cooler has rubber lines running to it, and id venture a guess that a lot of other peoples do too.

oh, and im not talking about cutting 3 feet off the hardlines. others on here (not me) have said they did that, and just cut out a small, straight section

As long as its rated for a transmission cooler I don't see the problem with running the rubber lines except they could be punctured easier.

I agree use steel lines or steel braided lines when at all possible. Those are lines that I fabricated for testing purposes only. This way we could quick disconnect them while a trans was on the dyno. Also this allowed us to install new fittings and make sure they did not leak before you would have to install your new transmission. The lines can be a pain in the *** in the car and messing with a fitting is even more trouble. Vince

I finally gave up on the hard lines and ran AN lines and fittings.
