Default ss3600 or ss4000

i know i should call the companys for exact thoughts on this question but i just wanted to ask you guys the ones that use them in there cars and get the full results wanted to run a yank converter either a ss3600 or ss4000 on my th400 will be using trex cam on stock heads and will be shooting a 150 shot of nitrous(every now and then) got 4:30 gears in the back on my 9" wanted to see what you guys think. I was leaning on the ss4000

thanks for the replies

You should get a custom converter. Doesn't cost anymore $$ , but you will get the right one for your combo. FTI & Circle D are two good ones to contact. Check out camscam02 & carter01. Both of those guys run stock bottem end cam only , nitrous ,th400 setups w/ FTI converters and are in the 9's

What is the power range for that cam?? Most likely the 4000 will be the one if you choice from these two but i agree with TeEnAgE pHeNoM, a custom converter is the way to go my man.

Call Dave at Yank and ask him what he thinks. He will tell you if the SS line is right for your car. It sounds like either (SS 36 or 4k) would be fine to me.

Dont let people trick you into the whole "custom converter" BS. You wont order a converter from our sponsors without giving all your info so they can spec it for you. It isnt sitting on a shelf like some want you to believe.

If you're set on yank and you're going to hit it with a 150 shot I'd look more towards something like the PT4000. The SS series isn't really meant for any kind of FI. The SS3600 would take it but I would think you'd want more convertor for that cam. When choosing a convertor you have to look at the whole package: nitrous, gear, tire, weight, and cam all play a role. But most importantly choose one based on what you want to do, they all have pros and cons in certain instances. Just buy the one with the most checks in YOUR pro column.

you're right I got them backwards. SS series has the antiballooning plates that can handle the nitrous. All these damn letters it's hard to keep them straight sometimes. I don't think either are specifically nitrous convertors like the PY series is but the SS is less likely to blow through than the PT from what I can tell.

i was told by dave the ss3600 was better for n20 but he also said that ss4000 would work also to if i was spinning it to at least 6800-7000 and im on a 140k stock bottom end so i went with the 3600 and that was with the 4l60

This is the info I got as well. But I guess the 3600 has the edge as far as being able to handle more.

those FTI setup converters really seem to work well..

N/A to 100 shot = ss4000

100+ shot = ss3600

Yes, this is a great guide between the two rpm stall. It really depends on what you're trying to do. So theres a compromise, all motor or nitrous. The 3600 will be better for the nitrous, but will slow you down a bit on your n/a run. Then vice versa.

I have a ss4000 in my car currently and its great for n/a went a best of 10.47@130 then I hit it with a 150 shot and it didn't like it at all. Ran a 10.2@134 and the rpms never dropped at all through the shifts. Talked to yank and im stepping down to a ss3600
