Default 1999 Stock Flexplate ok with yank stall?

I'm going to order a yank ss 4000 stall friday after work! I was told that I could just use my stock flexplate. Was told the 98 and 99's were better then 00 and 01's. The car only has 50,000 miles on it. I was looking at the TCI flexplates. Any thoughts on this?

I replaced my fp with an ls3 fp during my tc install. I had the 01 shity fp though. It was cracking on the teeth above every tc bolt hole. I cant say how strong the 99s are but I do know they are stronger. I would just replace it anyway. Do a search and see what a broken fp can do. Its scary as hell man.

You can use a stock flexplate but a nice SFI one provides some insurance in a high RPM engine

the flexplates with the 'peanut shaped' holes are the ones that are prone to failure, the ones with round holes are the better ones. Neither is as good as an afermarket SFI one.

I went through this same dilemma about a month ago. I have a '98 which supposedly has the stronger flexplate. I went ahead and replaced it anyway. It's cheap insurance when you think about it, and you might as well do it while you have the trans out anyway. I was only doing a 3200 stall, and I see you are getting a 4000, which makes me think the stock flexplate will be under even more stress with that converter... JMO, but do what you gotta do.

Keep your stocker or get a Hughes 4004x. If you can swing it get the hughes.

I saw the Hughes fp. It says you need an adapter with there fp on a 4l60e. Do you really need that? I've never heard anyone talk about it on here.

Big converter + SFI Flex plate. No need to cut corners.

I know you already went with the TCI, but for the record you don't need an adapter for the Hughes Flexplate HP4004x. I have it and it will bolt right up to the crankshaft without any adapters needed.

I got a really good deal on the TCI. So it's all good!
