Default Technical help needed.

Ive recently smoked my 6th 4L60e.. After taking the car to a bunch of different people that build transmissions. They have concluded that me running a 3channel axle on a 4channel car is what's causing the problem.

So with out the "reluctor wheel/ABS ring on the axle" will it cause premature transmission failure?

Also on a scanner its reading my car is in 2nd gear when it's actually in first.

I just had the car dynotuned about 2weeks ago also and it was loaded with a stock transmission tune.

Any knowledge of this?

Thanks Aaron.

The reason I'm running a 3channel is because I broke my 4channel one and didn't know it would mess anything up.

As far as I am aware that should not cause transmission failures.

Theyre saying it messing with the PCM sending the wrong line pressure signals.?

And that it will burn one up everytime.

Also to run a 9in, that I need badly. I'm gonna have to have the ring on the axle as well making that part, that more complicated...

The fact that you have a four or three channel abs system is not relative to your transmissions line pressure modifications.

What is going on with your transmission?

I see, thanks... then I would seriously take a look at the build itself, the builders' techniques, his experience in this specific market and the tune. Most scanners will report which gear is selected vs which gear is commanded. If a scanner is reporting that the unit is in 2nd when the shifter is in 1st then there is an issue with the pressure manifold switch, the wiring, or the prndl switch. There is more to it than that, but it would require a conversation on the phone rather than a long conversation here on the web... too much typing for an old guy like me. LOL!

Rest assured though that the fact that you have a 3 or 4 channel abs system did not affect you transmissions performance. For your people to say that would imply that the pcm is looking at vehicle speed from the axle speed sensor to dictate MPH. It does not look at the abs sensors for that information... think about it for a minute.... the whole purpose of a wheel speed sensor is to detect wheel slip so that traction control can be activated or not.

So to extrapolate... in a low traction event the pcm would see the wheel speed as higher than vehicle speed right? Why would we want to use a factor that is used intermittently and is a number that is likely to change based on driving conditions as opposed to a factor that can be considered a constant. That constant being a vehicle speed sensor, which is located on the driveshaft.

Furthermore... if we didn't have a vehicle speed sensor how would we know that the wheel speed isn't lying to us when we spin the tire or we lock up the brakes? The abs sensors are only used to determine whether there is a lack of traction on acceleration or on deceleration.

Maybe that will shed some light on it for you bud... holler if you need any help. I make myself available as often as I can. But I can't always be online due to the fact that I'm in the shop, on the couch or at the track! LOL.... So if you need advice or something else just give me a call. I don't mind visiting with you one bit.
