Default what oil ?? dex 3 or dex 6

Hi

i´m installing in my Vette built 4l60e and vig 3800 multi disc for a nitrous application

what´s the best oil to put in it , i know it should ne Dex3 but are there any gains og better ware results using dex6

i doubt this tranny will be long in the car, will be often freshened up, so i don´t need a expensive long life oil, just wante the best oil for the beating

Dex VI is better than Dex III in every way except price. Dex VI is recommended by GM for service on all Dex III transmissions, from complete flush or "top off" situations. It has better life, better lubricity, better heat resistance, better performance at higher temps, etc.

It's also expensive, but it's coming down in price. I think I paid less than $6 per quart at the local small-chain parts store last month.

I bought 6 for my tc install. When I went to gm to buy 3 the tech told me it all switched to 6. Its good money. You can still get 3 at auto stores though.

You can't go wrong with Dex 3. I ran type F in my Glide a few years back. Dex 6 is expensive and if you are tearing down and freshening up every year then its a waste. You wont see a difference using it. Just my 2 cents. . .

A lot of the builders on here still recommend III. The extra slipperiness of VI may not allow clutches to bite as well as with III. There are some other threads on the topic with lots of good discussion if you do a search.

This sounds very good but is this a fact?

when it come to drag race and you are pushing the limits will the VI hold the better, looking for that answer.

6 is great of you find it cheap enough, Walmart sells it for 3.xx/qt. I've ran it for a year in a Trans brake 400, and it's performed as it should.

Yes, according to GM. There is a great GM tech article floating around here that I downloaded a couple years ago. It states everything that I stated. It was a 4 or 5 page PDF file that introduced Dex VI.
