Help choosing a 4L80E for 04 GTO
Hi guys
I've got a 2004 GTO with a 4L60E. I had a few problems with a built 4L60E on my old engine and I'm working on a new forged 383 with 215 cc trickflow heads, full bolt on's and nitrous.
The engine will be making a bit over 700hp with that build, and I know that the 4L60E won't handle the power.
I'm considering a 4L80E swap but my knowledge is a bit limited when it comes to transmissions.
I'm having trouble finding the right year 4L80E for my setup
I have found a couple of links about all the years and ID tags for all the 4L80E's
https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...-came-out.html

It would be great any of you guys that already did this 4L80E swap can give me any info for the right ID Tag.
I know that I'll need a new flexplate and a torque converter that'll fit on the ls1.
I need the right ID Tag so that I can get a used 4L80E and then start building it for my setup.
Any help would be much appreciated

The year really doesn't matter. There's early models from 91-96 and late models, from 97 to present. An early model is what I recommend. Cooler line fittings are closer together on the early 4L80Es, while spaced apart a good bit on the late models. Early models do not have the 12 0' clock position bolt hole on the bell housing for the LSx engines, but it really makes no difference.
Food for thought, 4L80Es in truly stock form are pretty tough, but they will not live a long and happy life with 700+ hp

What was done to your last 4L60E that did not handle the horse power. I've built 4l60e's to handle that horse power and even now, companies like FLT and RPM are exceeding those limits. The 4l80's are a great transmission but, it too needs to be built correctly for it to handle the horse power.

Thanks for all the replies guys
The problem is that I live in Kuwait and no one builds autos properly! Everyone has a stick shift is over here, 4L80E's are all over the place and they're cheap too! It's the building part that's a bit hard.
I currently looking for a GTO T56 for my car but no luck finding one
