Default What trans should I use?

I am getting some parts together to do my 6.0L LS swap and I am thinking about going with an overdrive transmission. It will be going into my 71 skylark its about 3850lbs with me in it. I plan on doing a turbo and am looking for around 550hp to the wheels. It is going to be a street/strip car. Will a 4L60e be strong enough or 4L80e or is there a better trans.

Well if your going turbo and 550hp, a built 4l60 could work I guess.

But for a little more you can get a 4l80e with a few upgrades and then you can beat on it all day especially since your car will be tipping 4k pounds.

IMHO I wouldn't feel comfy with a 4l60 at that power and weight..

I'd run a Jakes 80e. Never hear anything negative about their products or service.

80e all the way if you dont already have a 60e.

i'm assuming you are going fuel injection so go with a 99+ ecu and get the transmission segment swapped in (98 ecu cannot control an 80e).

If your 6.0 is an iron block then get a HD truck / van PCM,
harness and 4L80E, and you're done. The A-body will take
the bigger case no problem.
