Today Under normal driving conditions, I came to a stop sign and as soon as I gave it gas and went from 1st to 2nd I lost the trans A4. I previously had a problem with the shift solenoid but would send me into limp mode and stay stuck in 2nd. I would turn the car off and on solving the problem.
This time, I have no response even if manually shifting from 1st to drive, or in reverse!
I checked fluid and its bright red and healthy as it should be, not burned at all. I tried turning it off and on, even disconnecting the battery but no luck.
Car was running healthy and strong prior to this.
Any info and help would be appreciated. hope its something minor and easy to fix.
Thx in advance...

Here is a quick pump check:
With engine off, check your transmission fluid level on the dip stick.
Then turn on the engine and check it again. If the pump is working, it should go down by an inch or so.
This doesn't ensure you have enough pump pressure, but if it doesn't go down, you can be pretty sure the pump is shot (unless the converter bolts all fell out).
I don't the experience to answer whether the trans would need a complete rebuild; that would depend upon whether broken pump metal may have spread. Considering the labor cost (or effort) to remove the trans and open it up, this would be a good time for a basic rebuild anyway.

My trans is already built, just hope nothing else has been damage.
