Default My car took a crap!... help me figure this out.

Today Under normal driving conditions, I came to a stop sign and as soon as I gave it gas and went from 1st to 2nd I lost the trans A4. I previously had a problem with the shift solenoid but would send me into limp mode and stay stuck in 2nd. I would turn the car off and on solving the problem.
This time, I have no response even if manually shifting from 1st to drive, or in reverse!
I checked fluid and its bright red and healthy as it should be, not burned at all. I tried turning it off and on, even disconnecting the battery but no luck.
Car was running healthy and strong prior to this.
Any info and help would be appreciated. hope its something minor and easy to fix.

Thx in advance...

kinda sounds like what mine did while driving down the highway. mine ended up being a bad pump. pop one of the lines off your trans cooler and just start the car for a second to see if you have fluid flow. If not then your pump is shot.

Here is a quick pump check:
With engine off, check your transmission fluid level on the dip stick.
Then turn on the engine and check it again. If the pump is working, it should go down by an inch or so.
This doesn't ensure you have enough pump pressure, but if it doesn't go down, you can be pretty sure the pump is shot (unless the converter bolts all fell out).

I don't the experience to answer whether the trans would need a complete rebuild; that would depend upon whether broken pump metal may have spread. Considering the labor cost (or effort) to remove the trans and open it up, this would be a good time for a basic rebuild anyway.

Dropping the trans is easy. I did it by myself when I did my clutch swap. I'd recommend an extra set of hands though.

And yours is an m6, manuals are always easier and less time consuming than dropping an auto

The weight for one if you don't have a hoist.

I have bench pressed a few while my friend did the bolts up on my back with the car on jackstands.
