I finally drove my car yesterday after converting it from the 4L60E to the 4L80E. The conversion went pretty good with not much modification or fabrication needed. Still have some transmission tuning to do but...wow what a different animal it is. It shifts so solid and strong it doesn't even compare to the 60.
I did a complete rebuild myself, this was the first time doing the 80. I have done a few 60's before but the 80 is sooo much easier to rebuild and cheaper. I want to thank Dynamic396, Slow67, and Jake's Performance for their help with parts and advice.
Once I get some miles and the tuning is complete it's track time.

If willing, please give us a list of parts and costs that you incurred.
How was the fit? Did your tunnel need any hammering or mods?
I know other threads cover this info, but sometimes over dozens of confusing posts.

I'd like to know details on the rebuild- parts, sites, references. I've thought about sourcing a 4L80e core and slowly rebuilding it, then swapping over.
I have a few links at home that I saved, just wanted to get your input.

I'll try to remeber off the top of my head. I sourced different parts of the rebuild parts from different people. If you wanted to do it simple just buy Jakes stage 2 rebuild kit. The tunnel I made an H cut where the plug lines up then beat it back with a hammer.
Craigslist transmission: $100
BMR cross member Xmas sale: $148???
Yoke for stock ujoint: $75
One cooler line: $16
Rebuild parts: $600ish
Wiring diagram: $20
Edge Converter: $600
Trans mount: used stock 60 one, it's the same part number.

I put trans in place then marked where the harness would come in contact with tunnel. It took a couple of tries to get it right on. Wiring, simple cut and connect.

Congrats on your project coming together. Glad to hear that you are pleased with it so far. I am just finishing up my install also, just have to put 12V power to the relay on my "slow67" relay mod and then fire it off for brief circulation and top off the tranny with fluid. Have already done preliminary changes on the tranny tune with HP Tuners.
I am excited to finally be close to driving this car again after 4 months of saving money and gathering parts for the conversion. I am ready to see what its gonna do at the track on motor and then hit it with a small shot!
