My son is about to die for me to get our car sideways after we make a turn from a stop sign, red light, etc. Given that we are in a safe environment and all alone of course. We have even tried abandoned parking lots. Each time that I turn the wheel and lay on the gas all we do is hook up and take off. Whats the easiest way to get the wheels to start spinning with an A4? We are also looking at only 5-10 ft of wheelspin from a dead stop. Am I doing something wrong or just overestimating the car? One thing that may be happening is that I may not be getting all the way to WOT. I have hand controls in the car (I am paralyzed) and I wonder if I am getting the pedal all the way to the floor.

What should I expect from the car?

if its got 2.73's gu2 code it can be tricky you really have to wack the throttle from a dead stock to get them spinning

When I first got my car, it had 2:73's in it and was very hard to get it to spin without power braking it. But even then it took forever. That's just one more reason to add mods

In an empty parking lot try driving like 10 MPH and make a turn about half as far as the wheel will turn and then punch it, should do doughnuts untill you let off the gas! Also try it with less than 1/4 tank of gas to get some weight off the rear tires.

thanks to all for the responses...one more question that I do have is:

Do yall feel that between 0 - 20 and 40 - 50 you get great throttle response but between 20-30 everything sucks?

No, @ 20-30 in 1st, I punch it and the tires come loose unless I'm on a really rough surfaced road!

Your 2-1 shift kickdown is programmed from the
factory to not happen, except at WOT, above
10MPH. Only at TPS>94% will you kick down.
It's pretty lame for street driving. Like no torque
or all. Especially w/ stock converter, you really
would benefit from a transmission shift profile that
was powerband-aligned and pedal-proportional.

Many stock vehicles have excess cable slack and
that's something you could check out (let the kid
get involved under the hood too). Bumpstop and
cable nonidealities can rob you of full throttle
opening.

could I change the shift profile with a hypertech or a predator programmer?

get a stall in that thing and you will have no problems at all with tire spin. I have 273s and can light them up when ever i want to

HPP3 and Predator only adjust WOT shiftpoints.
There was some mention that the (whenever)
Predator up-revision would add part throttle
adjustments. But currently, only WOT, which
is not that helpful around-town.

yah stall. You'll be able to do 360's on nitto drag radials all day long if thats your thing.

cops dont really appreciate that though.

I dont have a Torque Converter on my TA but i dont have a problem smokin them. Maybe you should have them double check your hand controls and see if it is getting WOT when it should be. By power braking it, it should sit there and spin all day!

yeah i had these crappy tires yoko-a-509's the stock car, no mods, 66K miles would lay about 30 feet of rubber from stop. Threw nitto's on and could barely chirp them.

now i got more mods/verter and i can lay a mean patch with the nitto's (25psi hot).

and yes i had a 2.73 A4 3673 raceweight. Car was bone stock, no mods and tires are still in good shape in a bag.

those aren't cheap tires, btw, $179 for 245-50-16 at tires.com treadwear 150. not some kum-ho sheot.

They grip well in front, but i dunno i could just mash it from a stop and blow away the stock tires.

waste of tire imo.
