6l80e,tci 6x, tr6060, t56
anyone running either of these in their fbody?
I'm torn between a 6L80E, TCI 6X, TR6060 or T56
I want a 6 speed. I know that much
any info for pros and cons would be great
Daily driver. 700-800rwhp Moser 12 bolt 3.73s, very minimal drag and track racing. street rolls

Here are two threads on the 6L80E with comparisons to the TCI 6X:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...60e-6l80e.html
https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...r-6l80e-3.html
I don't think a stock 6L80E could handle your power (700+ rwhp). I see articles on 5th-Gen Camaros swapping in 4L80E to handle that kind of power. The TCI 6X claims to (barely) handle that power level but since it is a 4L80E, it could be rebuilt for more.
Just to clarify - the TCI 6X is a 4L80E with a 6-speed valve body designed by PCS:
http://www.powertraincontrolsolution...ed-Valve-Body/
It also requires a special controller, but there are several sources, including again PCS.
It can be built for about $1400 over the cost of the 4L80E. Perhaps Jake could build you one that is stronger and less expensive that the TCI package.

I think the more fundamental question is whether you want a manual or automatic. The characteristics of the two differ far more widely than the similarity of having the same number of gears. Then there's the question of reliability. You'll have to do some careful clutch shopping if you go M6.
Mrvedit is gently nudging you in the right direction ... at that power level a built 4L80e is your best bet for reliability, and you can toy with some of the exotic (and expensive) options out there that will give you more gears.

well 6 speed manual is what I'd prefer. Drove my friends 2010 SS with the TR6060 and loved it. My current A4 is so boring. But driving my dad's 911 is so annoying(completely different manual though).
I guess I'll bump this over to the Manual thread for T56 or TR6060
Price is not really a problem for me.
T56+Tick build is about $5000
TR6060 is about the same.

Just my opinion, if you stick with an auto, then the 4L80E is a good choice. At 800rwhp, you'll be around 1000hp at the flywheel. You just don't need the 4:1 first gear in the 6L80 or even the 3:1 first gear in the 6X...at that power level.
If you're roll racing, then I can see why you want some close splits.
I'm not sure on which manual trans would be the better choice...but maybe you can start a thread in that manual trans forum and get some good input.
Oh, Mrvedit isn't completely correct about the particulars of the TCI 6X. It is based on the GM 4L80E, however, it uses a TCI designed valvebody. The last I checked, PCS didn't have a valvebody available yet.

It is my understanding from speaking to knowledgeable first-hand "sources" that the 1st generation valvebody used in the TCI 6X was a joint development between PCS and TCI. PCS has since then developed a 2nd generation valve body on its own; I forgot to ask if it was available "now". Sorry for any confusion.
I agree with Unreal - a 800rwhp car will go through the gears faster than you can comfortably shift. IMHO a stock 2010 Camaro SS is seriously overweight and not very fast, barely a 13 second car at our local drag strip.

The 6X valve body was completely developed in-house at TCI. I was Engineering Manager at TCI at the time. There is a new one one the horizon. Just wait until SEMA, and you'll get the details.
An auto is certainly the way to go, at that power level.

I do get a free upgrade and install for engine braking? Oops, guess I'm left out since I have the Red Box controller and I'm guessing that would take a wiring harness mod to pull that off...LOL

okay I'm back here, after reading and hearing from some other people as much as I want a 6spd manual, its pretty impractical. So what the best 6 speed auto to hold 700-800rwhp and 3.73s?

I am also looking to have a 6 speed auto in my Camaro 99. That with paddles must be awesome... Pretty expensive and pretty hard to figure out what to select.
Anyone have some experience from something similar?
TCI have a unit looking good. But I am not sure hove to connect it to my PCM...

Any input appreciated

it was with PCS. It was actually a GM design from 1997 that they decide was not a feasible product.

Before I go any farther, I understand that finding a manual to hold 800rwhp requires money. I understand that a single disc clutch will not work, and cheap multi disk setups can be clunky. Now that we have that out of the way, why do you say big power manuals become a pain?

my boy puts out over 800 and runs a t56. My tr6060 is built. This truck is just for fun I’m not dragin
