Default Which 4l80e TCI's six speed or PATC six speed

I'm looking at both of these tranny's and I'm not sure which way to go. Both have the same gear ratio and both are priced about the same. You alls thoughts on which one would be better?

Honestly, I believe any of the 6 speed versions of the 4L80E are going to have problems. I would avoid that headache (and have done so as a builder).

That they go in limp mood or won't shift to the higher gears such as 5th or 6th. Who would u all recommend as fair as getting a 4l80e from?

I personally have not had any issues out of the TCI 6X trans other than a few programing issues or wiring issues but nothing major. I have installed a few of them and the Ez TCU controller is very simple to use. It is a real fun unit to drive.

The six speed 4L80E can be made to have engine braking in all gears except 6th. If you truly understand how this transmission works, you'll understand what I am saying.

I have been told by one of the techs at TCI that they have a couple of them in testing with engine braking

Both TCI and PCS make 6-speed valve bodies for the 4L80E. A PCS rep told me that the 1st generation was a joint development between PCS and TCI; an ex-TCI engineer and member here posted that was absolutely not true. PCS now claims to have a 2nd gen unit, but I don't know if it is in production yet. I suspect PATC is using the PCS valve body (why would TCI sell them their valve body).

While there are lots of complaints here about TCI converters, I have not read anything bad about their 6x 4L80E and various shops and members have successfully installed them.
Personally I find PATC arrogant and likely to over-promise and under-deliver.; I would not buy anything major from them. That is just my opinion based on no hard facts. Also in a few years, when you might need warranty work or a rebuild, who is more likely to be in business.

Very true. I'll most likely go with TCI but with Circle D converter. On another note do you all if the paddle shifters can be used with the stock steering wheel?

Being able to use stock steering wheel with paddles depends on dish depth if any and dia of it. Dish to deep and you can't reach paddles, and dia to large and you can't reach them.

The steering wheel I used is close to flat and so I had to use one of the spacers shipped with trans kit, 1/2" one. It's dia is 13.4".

Shop around for a complete TCI kit and you should be able to buy one for $7200.00 or maybe even a little less.

Very nice! It's pricey but hey you get what you pay for. I hope it holds up to my combo. 427 lsx short block, all pro -2 heads, sheet metal intake and a F1C procharger
