Default 3600 stall wth wider tire/wheel = traction.

Gentlemen,

If I use a higher stall tc such as 3600, with wider wheels & tires, such as 17x10.5 or 17x11, will this be a worthwhile " mod " for traction issues ? ..........315 tires or so, would be used, obviously rear only.

I have 275's on 17x9 OEM wheels. I am thinking of getting the wheels widened. I posted a similar thread in wheel & tires section.

The wheels are re-painted 30th anniversary blue.

Why not put a 275 radial in there ?

Do you think that will solve the potential traction issues ?

This car will be a DD.

Yes, a 275 radial will hook better than a 315 street tire.

With it being a daily I would run a nitto Nt 555R or a Toyo proxy radial and you will get good milage out of them, hook decent and be fine in the rain

OK, with that being said, would you recommend a 3600 or 3200, or something else ?

It's hard to say because everyone's tolerance is different.
Between the those two converters absolutely the ss3600.
I ran that converter for a few seasons and it really drives nice and will be zero issue on a daily.

Now imo, and my drivability tolerances are pretty high, I would go with a SS4000. The SS series is a very nice converter.

Are you going to be running at the track at all ?

No track at all, at least at this present time. And, I've been told, keep the OEM rear gears.

If you are not looking to knock every last tenth off at the track than I would go with the ss3600 and your stock 3.23 gears.

If you were to track your car often I would go with a ss4000 or pt4000 and 3.73's

OK. Thanks. With the ss3600, does this car need a tune ?

Its an 00 A4 TA. Still has EGR, which I intend to leave for now.

I'm getting the tc installed 1st. Then most likely widened wheels after.

I've been running Nitto 315/35/17 drag radials on standard 17x9 SS rims since 2008. Even run them on trips from Cleveland Ohio to Daytona Florida for the November Turkey Rod Run. In October of 2008 heading down for the Daytona Beach 'Dream Cruise',encountered heavy rain in Georgia and Florida, they handled the I95 speeds in the rain very well, they were new at the time. As they wore,I just slowed down on wet roads. I just don't run them for the winters' snow and ice. For that,on go the BFG G-force 275/40/17 Super Sports A/S. I have 14 SS rims so don't have to do any unmounting.

No, it will look awful and be very unsafe. If you are going to run a 9in. rim put a 275 on it. Any wider and get wider rims
