Default Everyone with 4k stall come in

I have been looking at the yank 3600ss for the longest time and it seems like everyone that puts it in wishes they would have went bigger on the converter so is there anyone here with a yank 4000ss that could speak on the matter and maybe have a video of how it drives, I daily drive the car in the summer months I have a good tolerance for things as long as better performance is the out come, I will be running the MS3 cam

What kind of daily driving is it.... Stop and go traffic in the inner city or a free flowing cruise to work and what not ?

I had a SS 3600, I do not daily my car but for a daily it would not of bothered me in the least.

I have now switched to a PT 4000 after a h/c build and it absolutely rips. I love the shift extensions with this converter. I spin to 6800 and shift extensions drop to 6100 rpms.

As far as a 4000 for someone else, the only way that can be answered is if they drove one first. Everyone's tolerances are different. Even tho you say you have high tolerances, so do I but our opinion of high tolerance could be much different if ya get what I'm getting at.

Imo if I were to daily one a 4000 with 3.23's would not bother me. A 4000 with 2.73's might irritate me depending on mood and how long I'm stuck in stop and go but do think I could also tolerate the 2.73/ 4000 combo.

I will try and get a video in the next couple days and post it up of part throttle and wot

Good advice! ^^^
I have a Circle D 6F was formally a 5C and is still very tight in normal driving.
I have 4.30's with a 28" DR so that WILL change how the converter drives unlocked!
Lower numerically / more mushy.
As was mentioned above, everybody is different.

The louder the exhaust, the more the stall will bother you.

I have a 2E 4000/3.73 combo and with Kooks TDs, I see 95db in the car with it unlocked. Everyone who rides with me gets sick. Everyone. I used to, but then I got used to it. Locked, it's around 83-87db cruising at 60-70mph.

The 2E is very efficient uptop ~95%, but I see a 1300 drop on my shifts. So the shift extension is no where near the 800 promised. So it's a little tighter than what it would be if it worked like that. So that means it'd be even looser in traffic if it did that. I see 2500-3000 RPMs to stay up with traffic. The slippage isn't bad at all. It's just the loudness of the exhaust that's killer.

That's weird, my Nova with a 262/269 @ .050" SR cam, 1-3/4" super comps, 3" exhaust with an X pipe and ultraflo's and tails to behind the tire isn't that bad.
Especially when the converter locks.
Almost eerie.
I guess if there's not enough gear to keep the converter somewhat tight while cruising (unlocked) thus making the engine rev more would make more cabin noise.
Not saying your wrong, just my experience.

Ultraflos are 15db quieter too on my exhaust. That's a huge difference.

Btw, the 4.30s help. I had 3.23s before, and moving to 3.73s dropped my unlocked acceleration 500 RPMs... I was seeing 3k just to barely keep up with traffic. And now 2500 does the trick. And that does reduce the sound inside the car by a good 5-8db. So it got better, but still not great.

In my experience, the 2E is not a great converter. It's too loose in town and too tight up top. The exact opposite of what you want.

At one point I went from a 3000 stall to a 4000 stall from the same maker. It was exactly 2 tenths quicker with the same MPH.

On another build I went from a 3000 stall to a 3500 stall from the same maker. It was exactly 1 tenth quicker with the same MPH.

I would guess that from 3600 to 4000 stall would be worth about a tenth or so.

Lots of driving videos here:

I say **** it, get the 4k and just learn to deal with it. They are are gonna give some compromise so why not get all the performance you can.

It seems like the only people that get a large converter and regret it are those that buy a cheap converter, I am yet to see someone with a quality 4k stall converter say they regret going that big

If you let go off the brake in drive it will move from just idling.

As far as lockup, that's up to you and your tuner.
With mine I have it set so it only locks up in 4th above 50 mph. Locking up with a larger cam at to low of a rpm will cause a whole lot of bucking and surging. Need to keep the rpms up a bit to prevent this.

The problem with giving converter advice over the internet is when someone says it's a daily driver.

Big difference if you have to deal with something every day in different driving situations as opposed to just jumping in your car on a nice day for a couple hours then bringing it home and being able to jump in a daily loaded Cadillac or something.

Well I do daily drive it in the summer months, but I never really get stuck in traffic so that really aint an issue for me I live about a mile from the freeway so if im not jumping onto the freeway to go some where im driving maybe a couple miles to the store

I have a TCI 4k with 2.73s and an MS3. Not too bad I don't think. I also have a magnaflow muffler. Its not too loud. Its pretty loose. Half throttle will put you at 3-3.5k just to keep up with traffic. I wouldn't really want anything tighter I think. I am thinking of more gear though just for fun, but I like cruising at 85 turning 2k.

I have a 4k stall with 4.10s and I wouldn't change a thing. Yes it's louder because of the rpm and converter slip, but I have it locking at 50 mph, so it's not bad at all.

I initially bought an SS3600 and eventually had it restalled to a 4000 within a year or so.

The 3600 just left me wanting more and the 4000 with a nice sized cam seemed just right. I'd have no problem going with a 4400, but it's also not regularly driven either.

Right on, looks like I am going to buy the yank 4000SS and if I hate it I will just go threw the process of pulling it and having it restalled, once I buy my new truck the car will only come out when it is nice out

I have had all three ,ss3600,ss4000 and a pt4000 . The ss4000 isn't hardly any difference driving around but performs night and difference than the ss3600. The pt4000 is looser than the other two driving around. You'll be fine with the ss4000 . You'll love it driving and at the track.
