4l80e giving me fits!!
I have a 4l80 in my ranger but anyway it acts fine until it’s sees 160* then it goes stupid, hard shifting and no over drive and every once in a while when it’s hot and I put it in reverse it’s like the lockup engages and it kills the truck. Anybody have any ideas? When it goes into limp mode I can’t get a code out of it either

No details on engine
No details on how an 80e ended up in a ranger
Harness
Tune
Etc.
I have 100 ideas but none of them make sense without some good back story

1998 ford ranger.. 5.3/ 4L80e
It works fine until it hits 160 temp then it goes to hard shifting. And while you’re hot if you put it in reverse it kills the engine it’s like the lock up engages

Ok. Looks like you're on your own.
I have no idea how a 4l80e ended up in a ranger.
I don't know what's controlling it. Stock ecu or aftermarket.
I don't know if it's stock, rebuilt, has a bunch of mods, etc.
We need to know more if you want help. If you want to just repeat yourself from the first post...that's not going to get you anywhere

Let’s try this again
05 5.3 08 4l80 in a ranger transmission is stock stock harness re pined and segment swapped the p01 ecu.. works fine until it builds temp

If you have access to some sort of scan tool , I would scan the solenoids, range switch and such once the trans gets hot. I have seen shift solenoids stop working once the trans got up to temp. I have no idea about the binding up problem, but I always check the simple stuff first.

I agree with bbond
Also, check the tune and see if there are any high temp trans settings in the ecu that are giving you fits.
If you have hptuners or another scanner that can command the trans...let it get up to temp and then command gears and see how that goes.

I do have hptuners and when it starts acting funny I can command a gear and it does shift into that gear but it is a full line pressure so it will try to jar your teeth out.

Have you put a pressure gauge on this unit? I would highly recommend doing so.
Check and report back with the following:
park/neutral at idle, cold
park neutral at 1800-2000 rpm-cold
drive at idle, cold
drive at 1800-2000 brake stand cold
Do all 4 of those again when warm
