Default 2003 LQ4/2004 4L60E Swap

Hey guys im new here. My buddy pointed me to you guys because he told me you guys helped him during his swap. I am currently working on my first swap. I have a 2004 Silverado with a v6 and i just purchased a Lq4 yesterday that i am going to try and put in. I understand the 4l60E is not a great transmission, but i am going to go with it just for a few months until i can put something else in. i just want to get it running right now. One problem i am having is to figure out which flexplate and torque converter to buy. Some things i read online say to use a Dished Flex plate and some people i see are using the flat flex plates. So i was wondering if you guys can point me in the right direction of what to buy. I appreciate any help you guys can give. and im sure i will be back many times during this build. Thanks in advanced!

Your crank length will help dictate this. IIRC LQ4s came in both short and long crank configurations so you'll need to do some measuring. There is a sticky that goes over the difference in cranks and it also covers some of the info on spacers and dished vs. non-dished flexplates. A picture or description of your transmission input shaft also wouldn't hurt. I was not aware of a V6 in 04' but if there was then your trans more than likely has the 298mm input shaft, which will be pertinent to choosing the right converter and flexplate.

You most likely have a 300mm 4L60E/Torque converter with the higher stall "TLBX".....IIRC, 2003 was the first year for the 300mm 4L60E behind 4.3L V6's.
If you do indeed have a 300mm 4L60E.....You will need a dished flexplate & a '99/'00 LQ4 "Long Crank" will NOT work!!!

If you have a long crank, you can get a custom converter from any of the quality aftermarket suppliers and they will simply make the pilot shorter and the bolt circle correct for the flat flexplate.

A custom converter in a most likely well worn 4L60E??

Well i have one more question guys any input would be greatly appreciated. I got the flex plate and i found a wiring harness. Now i am wondering, its an 03 LQ4 with a DBC TB. Will an 01 harness work on that? since they are both DBC? and as far as connecting the harness to the transmission am i going to have trouble with that? Thanks again for all the help

Assuming the injector connectors are the same....Yes. Generally speaking, An '03 would have a Blue/Green P59 controller & a '01 would have a Blue/Red P01 controller. Which are pinned the same if both are DBC.....But you will need to use the Red or the Green keyed terminal locks to match the controller/PCM.

If you're using a 4L80E harness....You'll have to add circuits for the 3-2 solenoid & TCC enable solenoid along with pinning the main trans plug to match.

Cool thanks for the info. I asked the person on ebay what kind of transmission it came off of. The description only says 2wd Silverado 6.0 Drive by cable. And when i do a quick google search 4L60E keeps coming up for a 2001. But that doesnt sound right to me. But what do i know. Thanks for the quick response. I really really appreciate it. I will be sure to let you know how i make out. Thanks again!
