Default Yank ss3800 or TCI ssf3500

Well I want to get on a gp for one of these, but I'm torn. I really wanted the yank coverter, but right now you can get the TCI for under $500! While the yank sits close to $900. I know there will be similar gains, although the yank is a bit more efficient. Whats the general opinion on this situation.

I would go with the TCI. The TCI 3500 is a proven performer and a great value and IMO is the best ~ 3500 rpm converter on the market for the LS1. TCI also has outstanding customer service.

I like my SS3800. Feels nice and tight. I'm not a big fan of the TCIs but I hear some good stuff about them too.

I had to make the same decision myself. I went with the SS3800 due to an unbelievable deal, otherwise I would have gone with the TCI.

SuperStreet fighter 3500 $459.99
4L60E Comp TC 3800 $625.99

I would get the 3500 and use the other $166 or so on something else, the 3500 seems to be a pretty well proven converter.

i love my ssf 3500, no problems at all, and it feels tight. I cut 1.6 60's on a car with headers, air lid, and nitto's. I run 7.9 1/8th and 12.5 in the 1/4. The nittos and the SSF took 7 tenths off my time.

I ran those same 1/4 and 1/8 times with a 1.77 60' due to balding tires and I don't even have headers yet. Does that help convince you on what converter to get?.

Look at my sig. I know all about customer service, after being dicked around by Yank for 2 months I sent my converter to TCI who went out of there way to make it right. Brand new and performed like crap, also gave up 40 horse locked vs. unlocked. Warrantee, what warrantee, I guess my converter didn't come with that After being taken apart, TCI found the fins were bent all to hell. Yank just may build a good converter, one for every two they turn out.

I'm not trying to be an ***, I was just wondering why people were mentioning customer service like as if it determines a good converter, thats all. Sorry if I made any of you mad.

Customer service does not necessarily determine a good converter, but it helps to determine which converter you want to own. I really like my TCI SSF3500. Havn't been able to really put it to good use at the track yet as the last two times i tried to go were both rained out (going wed with ET streets ) but on the street it HAULS *** and for the price it just cannot be beat. IF they were the same or nearly same price i'd get the SS3800 but for that big of a price dif I'd get the TCI hands down.............but then again I already made your exact same decision (though Vig3200 was involved) and I am happy that I did.

Man this is a tough decision. I keep going back and forth. If I were to get the TCI I'm worried that I might keep wondering if I should of got the yank. I mean it's a 9.5 inch converter, 21 blade strator, more efficient, and its general more streetable but may produce slightly better numbers at the track. I want to pick the right one the first time.

It seems if money was not a factor people would have probably opted for the Yank converter.

On a side note GM high tech performance has a bolt on ls1 running 12.3's with the ssf3500. But would it of been better with the Yank?
