No Forward clutch clearance

Default No Forward clutch clearance

Installed the overrun clutches with clearance to the forward apply tabs. Installed the forward apply plate and 5steel/friction clutch pack with BW frictions and new .090 steels. My pressure plate/selective backing plate measures .230 Only the clutches and steels are new. The snap ring fits if you push the soaked new BW clutches together giving it no clearance. Is it common to need a different selective or apply plate? Does this look assembled correctly I'm hoping this is simple my last kit swapped in no problem. I just air checked it enough to activate each piston and no noise all 3 held perfectly

I did find an AC Delco 24212466 measures .171-.180 vs my .230 plate that would solve my situation but I would like a second opinion

Where is your old selective plate? Why don't you reuse it?

I went back and fixed my post. The steels, frictions and molded pistons have been replaced no other hard parts. I suppose tomorrow I can swap in the old pistons with the new steels and see if the pistons are the difference?

It was an ebay kit from Oregonperformancetransmission. I have messaged the seller about the 0 clearance and why the kit came with black instead of blue pistons in the photo.

If my old pistons fit with clearance I was thinking about running them. They only had 20k on them and look as healthy as the new ones and I got them personally from a commercial transmission shop in Odessa, TX

The 5 forward clutches and steels measure .826 soaked if I remember correctly

Are the new steels the same thickness as the old ones?. It is no uncommon to have to use a different size pressure plat to get the clearance where you want it, but something is off with your set up. Steels and frictions are thicker than what you had before, or the piston is taller. I can't remember if a 4-cylinder trans had a 4 friction forward set up, that could be your problem. You may have a 4-cylinder forward piston. Check your old piston height to your new piston.

I measured the forward pistons from tab to flat glass old and new measure at 1.260 The other pistons measured out the same as well. I measured the forward stack with apply,wave,steel-fricton x5 and the .230 selective backing/pressure plate the total measurement at 1.310 is this larger than stock? The selective backing that came with the truck and I also reused on my last rebuild. I do remember the clearance being tight but the old clutches and steels are in perfect shape/new.

Measurements of steels/frictionsApply .165
Wave .065
Steels .090
Frictions .075
Pressure plate .230

I'm going to reinstall everything and see if there is a difference

After reassembling I was able to get a .020 feeler gauge maybe a bit more after compressing the stack with some air I'm gonna run this and move on

Only time I have seen issue with the FWD clearance was with an early backing plate 82 to 84
