Ok so need to get a part from wrecking yard or gm for that shiftlock cable.

LS1N20. You don't NEED any of this stuff to make things run . If you don't use the neutral safety then it will start in any gear. You don't need reverse lights but they are good for safety. You don't need the put foot on brake to put in gear feature to drive the car its also just a safety feature I have been driving my car for several weeks without it hooked up. Fact don't seem hardly anyone hooks it up when doing t56 to a4 conversion.
And the shiflock is pretty much only a theft deterrent feature.
So if you have the proper wiring harnesses and tuning you can start driving your car and worry about this little stuff later on.

OK are we on same page? Are you swapping t56 to auto? course I used harness for t56 to 4l80 directly so if you are using 4l60 then you would
use 4l60 harness and thinks would pretty much just plug in. What trans are you swapping in there again and what harnesses are you using.

Anyway in my swap four things don't work like auto car. Neutral safety is on clutch and needs to be run to pnp switch on stock shifter. I did that.
Then you need to take reverse light wire off t56 and put it on pnp switch. I did that. Then if you want the pnp solenoid to work so that you have to step on brake to shift into gear you have to mess around. Since didn't swap to auto harness have more messing to do than if did. I had to run wire to pin in ecu and run power to brake or something still not exactly got it right but pretty sure can figure it out. Have some gm cd wiring diagrams friend sent me.They should do it in my car. And then you have the shiftlock cable that goes from the stock shifter in auto to column so when you turn key it allows you to move it into gear. The guy said the t56 cars dont' have something in the steering column that the autos do. So guess have to get that to make that work like factory.

Anyway as said having the brake solenoid work right is safety thing not a big deal think some cars don't even have that option. And the shiftlock cable is as said pretty much just an antitheft thing.

Why do people go to the A4 when coming from an M6? Is there not a A6 that will fit? Or is it to much money over the A4 that everyone uses?

a4 is pretty common swap these days. You get overdrive. a6 is much less common and not as simple .You can control a4 from stock ecu. Pretty sure a6 would require newer ecu or standalone controller.
I also wanted very strong and the 4l80 built are handling a lot of power. Not sure the 6l80 in stock or near stock form can take 800rwhp to 1000rwhp. TCI is offered the six speed converted 4l80 optional for f bodies but think it said 750 hp max.

4 speeds are fine for me. Will get six speed when get a vette at some point in future.

A friend and I are about to start swapping the transmissions in our car. He has an M6 and mine is an A4. The A4 is a 99 Firehawk and mine is a 2000 WS6. After all I have read it sounds to me like we can just swap the wiring harness between the two cars as well since neither is a 98 model. Can somebody confirm this?

Yes, you can swap the two harnesses that go on the engine/trans. However, from what I was told it is damn near impossible to swap the interior harness.... I wanted to do that on my two cars to make life easier. You will need to run new wires for the m6 to A4 to make the shifter function correctly.

You are going to need to run a total of 8 wires for the 2 switches, 6 for the PNP and 2 for the shiftlock. The connector pigtails you bought from the dealer for an exceptionally high price should be labeled A-F on the PNP and A-B on the shiftlock the wires go to the following places
PNP switch:
A. Shift Lock control circuit - Black/white wire from shiftlock control solenoid (Connector C200, Pin E)
B. PCM - Orange/Black wire from the white connector (Connector C220, pin H)on the end of the engine harness (the one that is inside the car on the passenger side under the kick panel)
C. Back up Lights - Brown wire, Same connector as above (Connector C220, Pin G)
D. Ground - Light green wire in Connector C400, Pin F (not sure where this one is but I can look it up) or to a chassis ground.
E. Start circuit - Clutch override switch (on the pedal), Purple/white wire
F. Start Circuit - Clutch Override switch (on the pedal), Dark green wire

Shiftlock Control:
A. PNP switch, Pin A
B. Brake light switch

PLEASE HELP!!!! I spent the last 3 hours in the garage trying to figure this out.... looking through my manuals....

Ok, tried to follow this and its not working for me....
1. Do I have to do the moving of the org/blk wire from pin H to F from post #6?
2. Where is C200 and pin E?? I looked in the book and I can find C200A, C200B..... not just plane old C200, The C200 block looks to be the huge wire connector?????. There are a couple blk/white wires near there and one in that bundle, but I don't want to guess. The one in the bundle does not have an E on the plug.
3. I cut the pig tail for the shiftlock control solenoid off my A4 donor car and the wires are Tan and Grn/white. It looks like the Tan wire will go to Pin A on the PNP, but what wire on the Brake light switch?? I have two plugs with 2 wires on each????? I have no idea which wire. Non of them are green either.

Other than these couple issues, the car is done and wires are run, just need to know where they go.

THANK YOU!!!

There is some good info in here, is anyone interested in high-res pics of the A4 to M6 swap? I will be doing my 4th one this weekend and can document the progress and add it to this thread so maybe that would help some people out.

Does anyone have the pin locations on the pcm that the trans harness wires go into. Ive been looking at the wiring diagrams and pinouts for the pcm and they don't match. So I am not sure which diagram to trust.
