Yank SS or TCI SF
Which is better? Yank SS series (around 36-3800) or YCI Series (Same)?
I want to get a great converter, but if they are about the same, I dont want to spend an extra 300 bucks on a yank.
Which would you get? Assuming the yank is $900, and the TCI is $600. I dont want to have regrets so I am taking my time on this one.

if you get in on the tci GB and the pacesetter GB you can probably get both items for $900

I just got some hookers, but are you saying I should get the TCI because of price? How is the performance different? This is a group discussion, not just for me, but in general, there are so many people asking about which is better, yank or TCI.

i enjoy my tci ssf 3500, unfortunately its too small for my cam. The shift extension for drag racing is too low, and it hits too hard for ease of use with nitto drag radials at the strip (ET streets baby).
Otherwise im quite happy with it. I haven't driven a SS3600 to say its worth the money but if money is no object, go for it! definitely go bigger than 3500/3600 if you plan to run a decent cam for a little higher shift extension.

My TCI is working GREAT for me. I have no reason at this time to recommend any other converter maker over them.
I'm running 11's on 255/50/16 DR's with it.I can get the car out of the hole with little to no problems after some practice.

The thing with Yank is they offer a broad selection
of stall & STR combos and if you know what you
want, you can get a pretty good fit. TCI's standard
offerings are good but you would have to talk to
them if (say) you wanted a 3800 stall but a 2.0:1
STR. Their standard converters run like 3000/2.2,
3500/2.5 and 3800/2.7 (?) and the higher STRs
make things a bit hard to manage traction-wise.
Even on my car with the 3000/2.2 I have a crazy
ride on the 1-2 shift. Would be less of an issue on
a 2.73 car but you would need really good rubber
to hold against these higher STRs when you flash
on the upshift (let alone off the line, but this you
can pedal-manage; nobody wants to have to feather
the pedal for shifts on an automatic though, and
you don't want to get sideways neither, if you don't).
And then there's the question of the transmission's
tolerance for input torque spikes, challenged more by
very high STR and a stall point up on the fattest part
of the torque curve.
However TCI has mentioned custom options and
you might check those out with their tech support
people. Might still come in at a good price though
not likely as low as their stock ones.
In any case they're going to want to discuss with you
your current setup and your future plans for the car
and I'd let them (either vendor) at least advise you
to help narrow down the clutter in choices.

Yank ST3500 = 1.60-1.62 60ft's consistant with a best of 1.589

Damn, those are some good 60' for any 3500 stall!!! Those kind of 60's are usually seen in the 4200-4400 stall ranges. Do you have any major weight reduction??

yank has zero customer support not even to their suppliers. I tried to buy something for a long time. TCI is sweet. I know my tci will wear out (or the trans will puke 73K miles) eventually. I know i can call TCI up and have a man answer the phone and figure me up a new verter based on my core and my new goals.
Even a BIG BIG BIG sponsor here was like "man those yank guys aren't responding". I wanted a yank crossmember, had cash to pay for it, ready to rock tried everyone, got nowhere.
Customer service is #1. If yank is so hot, why dont they hire a $8/hr bimbo to answer the phone and provide her with tier 1,2 or 3 faq's to help us out.
Their product may be good, but a company is only as good as its customer support which sux *****. I was gonna get a SS3600 too, but this is too expensive of an item, along with the crossmember to gamble on a 1 man operation which poor customer service.
Don't know what business ya'll are in, but if the phone goes unanswered or a single unresponded call goes at my work for more than 24 hours, *** IS GRASS.
I can understand vacation or something but if you're margins are so weak you can't hire a bimbo to handle the phones that says something. Raise the price and get great support in there.

BTW the 1.66 was from an idle launch and not a brake stall, as my stock brakes at the time would not allow me to hold a 2000 rpm brake stall. I have Powerslots/hawk/Earl system now (No problem)

Customer support is the basis of a good product. If their customer sucks, that doesn't say much for their product. We have the TCI 3500, easy install great street manners and a blast on the track!!. Just my $.02

Sam, you can only brake your 3500 stall to 2000rpm on the stock brakes? Something don't sound right there. I can easily brake mine to 3200rpm with out making it lurch. Did you have your car tuned? If so, I'd talk to the tuner about that. A guy I know had a ATI 10psi and had a mail-tune that was seriously fucked up. When I say fucked up, I mean it had to be for another car. It was whacked out when we loaded up LS1edit to it. He couldn't brake his SY3500 to more than 2000 rpm because the tune was so fucked up.

me? my car overpowers the brakes, i was hotlapping and using rear brakes for burnouts so i might have boiled the fluid or something.
Seemed to work better at idle just flooring it with et streets, the car just stuck.

I had a Yank SS3800, i didn't like it. I would go with a PI 36oo or 3800 stall with the multi disc and the #7 pump. I now have a TH-400 with a PI 4000 stall and love it.
