Just nuts and bolts throught the floor with some spacers, easy to get to underneath with no trans in the car

A4 floor has the shifter bracket welded on but that can be cut off if need be. I had posted this a year or so ago with more pics but here is a few pics I have left on my computer from when I did it.

Here is what an A4 floor looks like, not the best pic but this shifter is longer and mounted a little different, its a B&M pro ratchet and the one in my old car was a B&M hammer.

Not really, it took me longer to find the camera and take the pics then to do it. It took a while to make the aluminum plate and make the console fit perfect but the shifter itself was nothing to put in. Total time to remove console, make plate, install shifter and trim everything was less then 3 hours. Of course that doesnt include removing the trans..

I used to do stuff like this for a living and if it took me more then 3 hours to put a shifter in I wouldnt be making money

Well, I took the stock shifter out and put in the B&M Megashifter. It's the tall, generic one, so I won't be sticking with that. I doubt BMRacing is going to create a console shifter for us (if they haven't done it for nearly five years, who's gonna convince them to do it with a defunct model car). They may not understand the guys that are going to keep these cars, buy them from someone else, etc., are the hardcore folk that will want a ratchet shifter, but "oh, well".

I guess I will decide what shorter-stick version I will get later.

Turns out there is a raised bracket in the floor that was perfect to drill one hole in the front and two holes in the back and use the stock metal screws. I could have driven my Van this morning, but I wanted to see how it drove (haven't done the wiring, yet). So I left the slide switch in that detects Park/Neutral.

SilverGhost is supposed to be sending me an M6 console that was a hacked up for a Megashifter install, so I'll run with that for a minute.

Thanks for all your advice, kp!

Main reason they wont make a shifter for these cars is there is no reason to manual shift them with a stock trans. I sure wouldnt make a shifter for a OEM console counting on people to do TH400/350/PG swaps in a car they dont make any more..

The hammer is a clean install and you can easily trim the M6 boot to work with it. The upper console will need a little trimming on the front but the boot covers it. A hurst quarter stick is plenty low but the way the reverse lockout lever is you couldnt use a boot. I didnt think I would like Hammer since I am used to a little more 'race' oriented shifter and it looked a little cheap. But it always worked perfect and the way its gated makes sense. Plus the hammer can be used with a 4l60, TH350/400 and powerglide, forward or reverse pattern, so once you install it you are done no matter what trans you put in
