Who has done this, and what problems did you encounter? How different is it in size form the 4l60e? What wiring/computer changes have to be made?

Well.... I deadlift 615 and can bench 455... for reps. That will be the easy part then.... damn you have to shorten the driveshaft as well? Thought so.

I've done it..BMR made a tubular trans K-member(93-97) based off my install.
check with them for the part number..I don't know if they have as yet made one for an LS1 vehicle as the floor pans are drastically different..
the t56 k-member will have to be heavily modified to fit and a spacer made.. it's not a direct bolt-in..I made one and used it for my temp till the one from BMR came..

You'll have to use a short torque arm..like BMR's or a Spohn..no room for a stock length one..

the pcm can't drive the 4L80E..so you have to go with a manual flash and either get a stand alone controller like the TCI T-Com like I did.. or just go with a full manual valve body..although Ken of LT1/LS1 Edit was considering writing the software to run a 4L80E with LS1 Edit..but that's only for an LS1 car..not an LT1 car..

don't notch the tunnel rib unless you are going to use a controller..as that's where the harness plugs in..else, I don't think you'll have to notch it..

Two things I noticed..the 1.48 1st gear will seem lame outa the hole versus the 3.06..so you'll want to go with more gear for more torque multiplication..
also the trans will eat about 50 hp because of the extra parts to move.. panetaries..etc..

I like the controller..soft shifts at part throttle and head snappin' shifts at WOT..versus the manual valve body with constant hard shifts..

I have been unable to get the odometer to work by splicing into the vss..
I've been told I can use an ABS sensor ..just have to find the number of pulses per rev so I can program the pcm..soon as it warms up..I'll be working on that..

Also..do a "search" both here and at the CamaroZ28 Board for "4L80E" ..others have done it and some have detailed info with pics on theirs..that's how I got started on mine..

Good Luck!
Matt

Its untrue that the factory ecm wont controll the trans., I had a 4l80 in my 95 3 years ago. It can be done and its not that difficult.
