Default They said it couldnt be done Megashifter

Here is my 98 Sport Gold TA with my megashifter from my 87 GTA. I was able to save this part before the car went to the wrecker... Some minor mod required, nothing crazy..

not much really, just remove the old shifter, then line up the new one making sure its "a little to the right", then put some bolts in and run a tranny cable... Some odds and ends electrically but i can tell you how to do that...

This is the B&M Megashifter it is the 82-92 Console Shifter..
It is fairly easy to install.. I had to use the cable that came with the shifter, because its adjustable.. but i love the idea of the Ratchet action... cant miss shift or accidentally throw it in park.

how high does that stick up out of the console, i'd like to cut a couple of inches off but i don't have a welder to weld the pieces back together. also is that a 4l60e because i heard you need some kind of electronic controler since the 4l60e is electronically cotrolled?

Its really only about two and half to three inches above the console, you really cant lower it any because it will push down on the console when ratcheting....

the electronics are controlled at the tranny not the shifter, still shifts like its supposed to in drive....

It might controlled at the Tranny on your 98 but I've had mine console apart on my 99 T/A before to fix some rattles and to look at replacing it and found that on the side of mine there is a black switch box that tells the pcm what gear you have the shiter in at any given time. Thats the tricky part but I have seen several sucesfull setups before I just haven't liked the way the others have done the boot or gear selector setup, until now!

Very clean looking install! definatly the best looking install I've seen yet and I would love to see more pics and a write up on your install.

A write-up on how to install this shifter would be awesome. Specifically, what are the electrical modifications you talked about that are needed to make this work? The basic install should be pretty straight forward. I have been wanting a ratchet shifter in my 01 WS6 that would still apear semi-stock for a long time and if the Megashifter can be put into my car that would be great.

anyone with a shift kit and programming ***** an auto. If you dont have either than its somewhat pointless since the computer wont let you shift where you want to
