Default Problems with new Torque Converter

My Yank TP4400 was installed yesterday. The guy didn't install the cooler becuase there wasn't enough time (long story). So that same day, as I was driving it home, I decided to punch it off the line, and I felt just a LITTLE difference I was expecting it to pull a lot harder than that So, I tried it a few more times and to my disappointment, I had the same result. Well, today I took it out for another spin. I drove to a deserted area, which took me awhile to get there. On the third run was when my problem started. I floored it and my car took off VERY SLOWLY I tried it again with the same result. Is it because I had no cooler? Did my tranny get too hot I need help guys! My SES lights also come on and my car still lurches forward a bit when I take my foot off the brake...I thought it's supposed to stay still? I really need help fellas, thanks in advance.

If the tranny overheats you'll have problems.

Make sure your coolant is right, that the tranny cooler lines aren't pinched and find out what the SES light is. Anybody near you with ATAP
?

I wouldn't beat on it untill you figure out the problem. You should have no problem breaking the tires loose when you launch hard with that converter.

Are you running a ported MAF? Did the installer disconnect the battery upon install? If so, then your pcm memory was wiped out and it will take about 200 miles to relearn. It takes a while for a tranny to get wiped out, even without a cooler. You may have gotten an SES light because your car went too lean before it had time for the pcm to "re-learn". Drive it for a while. Put some easy miles on it. Punch it 200 miles later (hopefully with a cooler on it) and report back.

Have you checked the tranny fluid?

Yep, if you haven't already done so, double check your tranny fluid, and then check it again! I had to add fluid 3 seperate times before it was at the right level.

I agree with everyone else. Check, double check, and triple check the tranny fluid. Go drive the car (normally, not hard) between each fluid check. Your car probably went into limp home mode. Shut the key off for about a minute. Start up the car and you should be OK, except for the SES light.

You need either an AutoTap or need to pull the PCM Bat & PCM Ign fuses to clear the SES light. Also, try keeping the tranny in "D" instead of "OD" when driving under 50 MPH.

Thanks for the replies guys. Ragtop, no one around me has Atap. Patrick G, i'm running the Granatelli MAF and i'm pretty sure the installer did not disconnect the battery. I haven't seen my car since that day so, I haven't had time to check my tranny fluid. Hopefully tonight i'll be able to. Thanks again
