Help - where to buy a beefed up 4L60E?
...it sounds simple, but not if you live in Europe!
I'm loosing my 3rd gear because the stock trans is too weak for the power I'm making.
If I rebuild it here it will cost me an arm and a leg and it may be cheaper to buy a rebuilt + beefed up unit from the States (or Canada).
What company / vendor do you suggest?
I won't be able to send it back because "ooops, it's not the right one!". Once it's here it's here. That's why I need a serious company.
I need a replacement automatic transmission (4L60E) for a 98 Trans Am included stronger torque converter (with TCC).
It's not for drag racing, it's a daily drive with some spirited WOT's from time to time.
Power level: see sig.
Thanks - Stefano (Switzerland)

To bring the car and let them do the job it will cost $5000 or so.
To do the tranny alone $2500 - $4000
I know a good speed shop over here and for beefed up trans they order them in the US 'cause over here nobody drives cars with 400+ HP, so the tranny shops won't know how to beef them up.
Sad but true
I'm now considering different possibilities:
- rebuilt here
- beefed up from the US
- A4 - M6 swap (parts from the US)
The last one is obviously the most complicated, but you know how addicting are those things...

Hi Steve, how are you? Do you remeber our chat about the injectors?
Do you still have the stoch transmission? We have about the same amount of power...
I see prices between $2000 and $2500: are there real differences between the transmissions? It's real difficult for me to choose one: I'll have to call all those peoples and see what they say.
Can I assume that they are all about the same?

When I make the change, I'll probably go with a Dynotech tranny, but I think most if not all the trannies in your list are well-proven.

I called a couple of shops and they all suggest to use a vacuum modulator for the tranny pressure. In this way the PCM will only command the shift speed (part throttle and WOT). The pressure will be completely depending on mechanical matters.
Is that normal? Are you "beefed up guys" also have a vacuum modulator? What is your experience with it? positive / negative?

Well, I really prefer to keep full control of the transmission using the PCM.
Sure the vacuum modulator works, but why loose the ability to program it?
They just told me that many people will mess with the program increasing or lowering the pressure too much wich results in braking things.
My goal is to have a "stock transmission" able to handle the power I'm making.
Stock transmission = same behaviour as stock.

Yes that was me
I had an interesting conversation with Chuck and I still have to clarify the shipping costs if I organise that from here.
What I still don't understand is what is the difference between a reinforced 4L60E working with the stock transmission settings (full electronic) and the same unit using the vacuum modulator to command line pressure.
Are the stock setting sub-optimal? Are they good only for the stock tranny and won't work with a beefed up version?
Checkvalve for boost applications: where exactly? Will this release the pressure between manifold and the modulator?

vacuum modulation is nothing more for you than hooking up one vacuum hose. Now when you give the car a little gas..you get a little more line pressure...lots of gas..lots of line pressure. You WANT vacuum mod......I can burn up FLP or anyone elses including my Rock On tranny by screwing around with the line pressure tables in the pcm IF it isnt vacuum modulated.
