Default Tranny cooler 'kits' with cooler, fan, thermostat....

Wondering what you guys think about the following tranny cooler kits (I have two setups here, but if you know of others, please post links).

One is a stacked plate, one is a tube and fin. One is complete, one you have to assemble.

OPTION 1: B&M Kit (mfr site first, then vendors descriptions)

B&M
Jegs
Summit

OPTION 2: Electra-Cool (not a kit per se, must buy parts separately)

Cooler + Fan Assembly
Thermostat

Go with the B&M unit ... easy to install and works great.

They both look nice, but you could do the same thing
with a couple of surplus 12V PC cooling fans and an
hour with the tin-snips and pop-rivet tool, to your
existing cooler....

Don't have an existing cooler, if you can believe that, even though I have the tow package with my truck. Damn General, cutting corners.

Even if I did, I don't think I'd want to use some fans that are supposed to live inside of a computer, and expose them to the elements.

stacked plate is a better solution than tube & fin.

Why is that, if you don't mind sharing?

1) more cooling capacity for a given physical size.
2) plates are designed to flow less when cold so there is less cooling when your tranny is below operating temp and full flow once operating temp is acheived. Tube & Fin has full cooling from the moment the car starts up. This is more important in cold climates than Southern CA, but it is better to have your tranny warm up quickly if flog the car on the street.

Yes, I installed it in a 2001 Expedition for a magazine article. It kept the temps at a good level, I don't recall the temp value though. I was more concerned about the install going right. I am thinking of using one of these on our race car.
