When it is cold out and my engine temp is still less than 210 degrees via the dash gauge and not A/T, my converter doesn't lock up under light acceleration to 50 MPH. Anyone notice this?

Torque Converter lockup depends on a couple different conditions. One being (and related to cold weather) is Engine Coolant Temperature must be at least 65 celcius, or 149 degrees fahrenheit.
The PCM will restrict the TQ lockup until the coolant warms up to at least this temperature.
I've had this happen to me, but once the car reached and maintained it's normal operating temperature it was fine. Hope this helps.

This happens to me to...My converter will not lock up until my "engine temp" gage gets EXACTLY on the 160 mark. I use that engine temp as a reference to when the verter locks up.
what your experiencing is normal, dont worry about it....

That's exactly right. If your trans fluid gets too cool, the PCM will unlock the converter. I had my converter unlock only once when the fluid was too cool, and it hasn't happened since. Even then, I had been driving on the highway for over 100 miles in very cool weather. It stayed unlocked for 20 seconds or so and then locked back up.

ABSOLUTELY - mine acts like that all the time. I let the car sit and run for several minutes but it still actually takes a few minutes of driving. I think it is more dependant on the TRanny Fluid Temp not necessarily the engine temps. If you drive in third most of the time it is hard to notice as much as OD but once it warms up a bit it works fine.

I have had the same experiences with the ST3500 and now the TP4400. As soon as the trans temp comes up it lockes up with no problems.
Might I say that the TP4400 is a bad *** converter. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[Burnout]" /> <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[Burnout]" /> <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[Burnout]" />
Nitto's are useless <img src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" border="0"> <img src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" border="0">
