Those numbers are about right Terry, but the funny thing is...even if you shifted your car at 6200, the rpms would still only drop to about 5100 rpms with the ST3800. Thanks for the feedback. Keep it coming.

So would it be fairly accurate to say that with a ST 3200 the shift extension should be 4500-4600, as that is what I'm hoping for with my setup.

That's about the right rpm range for the ST 3200 Mike.

How are you guys testing shift extension?

I have a Yank3000 with just minor bolt ons (probably 310rwhp) and when I autotap my runs, my RPMs drop down to 4000-4100 on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. Sound about right?

Default Re: I tested my shift extension on the Yank ST3800

I held the following shifts (measured 2-3 upshift)

TT 2800, some bolt-ons, no headers: 4000-4200
ST-3500, some bolt-ons, no headers: 4500-4600
ST-3500, full Bolt-ons & headers: 4700-4800
YTP 4000 with 218 cam: 5200
YTP 4000 with 218 cam & untuned blower: 5600
YTP 4000 with TR224 & heads, bad cylinder: 5500

All 3 converter upgrades had a definite SOTP improvement from a roll.

Wow if the TP4000 gives a 5500rpm shift extension with heads/cam, I wonder what the TP4400 will do? What were your flash speeds with the various mods?

Thanks

Default I tested my shift extension on the Yank ST3800

With around 400rwhp, it comes out of the hole ~3900rpm, and with 6800-6900rpm shifts my rpms drop down to the 5100rpm range. What numbers are you guys seeing with other converters?

I assume the TP4400 will show ~4500rpm launch, ~5500rpm shift extension with 6900rpm shifts. Sound right?

I think they are open the 2nd and 3rd. I'd come out and race you, but I have plans to head up to San Fran for the weekend.

TP-4400 in my car never fell below 5200.

The UT-4600 is a another complete story <img src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" border="0" alt="[devil]" />

Terry:

I hold pretty high rpms on the 4000 because it is a lower stall version of the 4400. As a result, my STR is slightly lower then a 4400 and the efficency of mine is a bit higher than a 4400. The 4400 is only good for another 100 -200 rpms of shift extension. The 4400 will have a bigger hit off the line and a little more midrange gain. The 4400 doesn't feel much looser than the 4000.

Your 3800 is a higher stall version of the ST 3500 and has a bit higher STR than a 3500 and is slighly less efficent, so you gain some shift extension over the 3500, but not a lot. It is not a linear extrapolation. By example, the ST 4000's shift extension is only 100 - 200 rpms higher than the 3500, but the extra stall produces a BIG bottom end and lower midrange increase.

I don't have reliable measures of what I flash to. I gave up trying to measure it on the street because of traction and at the track I'm focused on other things.

I'm kinda worried about ordering a new one, because I don't want yank to mess it up trying to compensate for my mods. If I tell them I have 400rwhp/425rwtq and want an off the line stall of 4600rpm and shift extension of 5600rpm, will I get what I want?

Terry:
A YTP 4400 will pretty much hit that target. Going smaller isn't probably worth the investment. UT4600 would probably work but it also seems that the 4600 & 4800 work best with cams biased for high end power and 6800 and higher shift points. If you had a Tbrake, the 4600 might be more appealing.
