Default Wilwood brakes installed.. pics

Well its done.. all installed yesterday.. not too difficult and the sawzall made short work of modifying the spindles -- the directions are a little weak but we were able to sort it all out and everything is working great. It certainly has a very different feel to it.. more mechanical.. neither the rotor nor the caliper floats like stock, the pads sorta do.. its a different design. One thing of note is that these rotors are zinc coated, unlike KVR's that are cad plated.. The performance on the way home after install was strange.. grinding and funny feeling.. I couldnt burnish them well because of the traffic so I just drove home.. the strangeness was caused because the zinc coating need to worn off before the pads work right.. I did that today and after a LOT of smoke and dust doing hight speed stops (followed by a cool down drive) most all of the zinc is gone and they work great -- So far all i can say is the car stops a LOT faster.. no fade and its easier to set off the ABS..

Pics of them through the wheels will be up once the rotors look right and the car is clean..

Here are some pics.. i tried to make them small:

A pic of before we started:

Here is a comparison of the two rotors.. big difference:

After modifying the spindle.. notice the missing lugs for the stock caliper.. these would interfer with the new caliper mounting plate (black anodized plate:

Back side of mounted Caliper:

Install finished (pretty zinc coating on rotor wont be there long..

Quick pic of back caliper that was NOT installed.. nice quality item but im putting that project aside for a while.. Its a long story about TCS problems, computer programming and new axels to make work..

All in all im very happy.. i need someone to drive my car so I can see what they look like with the wheel spinning

Big thanks to Andys Auto in Monrovia.. they rock!

Did you weigh the stock rotors/calipers and the wilwoods to see the difference?

What size wheel is needed so that the calipers dont rub? I have the stock 17" ws6 wheels.

Steve,
Now all you have to do is show us some pics of the new binders behind your 18" Zo6's! Great pick on brakes btw.. Andy's in Monrovia rocks! I'll be there this Sat to have some SFC's installed, maybe a 5" monster tach
(Autometer Cobalt Series)too..

I didnt weight them -- but the using the "hand scale" method the rotors felt about the same.. remember that the hat is a lot lighter than stock but the rotor is bigger (13") so it works out.. the caliper felt a little lighter and the brackets weighed less than the weight of the metal we removed from the spindle.. overall I would guess a couple pounds less..

These will work with all FACTORY 17" rims (ZR1, 10 spoke, etc) according to Wilwood.. my aftermarket 17" rims wouldnt work (boyds) so i got the Z06.. the 18" werent necessary but what the heck

Yep, they do stop great.. and they should get much better once all the zinc is worn off the rotors.. So far no brake squeel when stopping.. but i expect it to a little.. im using their street grade pads (low dust, low noise) and I have a track set for when its fun time..

I can almost change the front pads without even removing the wheel.. Notice the pic of the back of the rotor.. you just remove the bridge bolt and the pads slide out..

Great pics, Steve.

Were you able to cut the spindles without removing them or do they need to come off?

The directions say to pull the spindles and have them cut by a "qulified machinest".. give me a break.. lol. we cut them in place then used a grinder to debur the area.. painted it with a little POR-15 and voila.. all done

Oh, a sawzall with a metal demo blade cuts through a spindle like butter
