Yank SS3200 vs. Yank SS3600?
I'm really having trouble deciding, but I think I've narrowed it down to one or the other. I don't know that much about converters yet, but I do know I only want to do this once. Is there really that big of a difference between the two? Could one really feel a difference between the two installed in a daily driver ? I've only got a catback, lid, shift kit, and played around with my Predator programmer a bit.
I don't drag race it, Yet I still hunger for more. Don't we all?
Anyway, driveability/reliability IS an issue. This I can't stress enough. I won't rule out major mods someday, but I've got no plans in the near future for heads/cam. I can't afford it all at once! but I WILL drop the cash on a Yank... and an appropriate trans cooler, of course.
Please help me!

yeah, but i think im in the same boat as prototype...is it worth getting a stall or for that matter a 3600 stall for a street only car, especially when reliability is such a big factor. i mean, is a stall worth it if ur running street tires?

Urban Legend, keeping in mind this is a daily driver, the last thing i want to do is go overboard. Wouldn't a ss3600 be too much for a stock cam/head car?
How amazing is the gain? I could care less about numbers, I'm concerned about heat/reliability, but more than anything, how fast it feels. Know what I mean? Tell me more about how your car felt/drove as opposed to stock?

You live in Chicago ... there are a lot of guys on the board from there (check out the other active SS3600 thread). Find a couple of guys with different stalls who'll let you cruise their cars. Don't go crazy; just drive around town a few blocks as you would normally and see how you like it - that's how you'll be driving it every day. Doing this with a 3500 stall convinced me that a 3000 would be enough for me and I've been very happy with it.

The first time you floor it, whether you are stopped or not, will leave a big grin on your face. Even from a roll it helps a ton over the tight stock converter.

Once you reach lockup speed (40ish) the RPMs will fall back to stock range and you will cruise like before. It will take more pedal to get moving, especially in reverse, but the ability to brake stall and launch, and have a great shift extension are reasons enough to get one and not look back.

I have had an SS3600 in my car for a couple of years (ST3500 but then got the 3600 with my new tranny). I cannot stress enough that a 3600 stall is not as big as people make it out to be. The people installing it for me warned me that it would be way too much for a daily driver. They told me it would ruin my car. I ignored what they said (because of the advice on this forum) and couldnt be happier. If I could only drive around town and never go to the track, i would STILL get the stall. If anything I would have gone for a 4000+.
You will not regret getting the converter but I recommend a transgo shiftkit and a HUGE transmission cooler, and maybe a temp gauge. Dont get a 3200 it will be a waste of money for you. I am doing an F-13 cam now and I am glad I have the 3600, but it was great on stock heads/cam too.

With street tires (sumotomo shitty Z rated w/ 17" chrome rims) I still pull 1.7 60' with stock engine. I cant stress enough that the SS3600 is the PERFECT daily driver converter in my opinion. I was in the same boat as you and was scared to put it in, but even my dad (who hated the fact that I was modding my car, and fought it tooth and nail) says that it was the best mod he has ever seen on any car. Just be careful at first because you will ******* kill yourself, its a world of difference.
BTW: once you get used to the stall, you dont even notice the drivability change because you learn how to push the throttle enough to get you right to the powerband without lighting the tires up. I stop at every stoplight I can, just for fun.

What are the shift extensions between the two with stock 6K shift points or any other SS converter? I did a search but it seems like those who have stated their shift extensions with these converters have a higher SE than what Yank claims. Maybe they have higher shift points? The reason I am looking at the SS3200 is due to the lower STR because I am affraid the 2.5 STR of the SS3600 will blow away Nitto DRs.

Slim good point on the 3400 stall. All i see is questions on 3200 or 3600 stall.
I know that fuddle is pumping out a ton of 3400 2.2 right now.$400 shipped. They even suggested myself for one.Im a weekened warrior only(just turned 6,000 miles),so numbers dont mean jack to me.Just a grin is all i need.
Anyone one else out there a 3400 2.2 fuddle or yank lets here some input.

not sure on the shift extensions, i believe it drops to like 5k ish after a shift, i definitely would let the ss3600 be the smallest size converter, believe me from experience i was think of getting the ss3200 also, and i am so happy i got the ss3600 now i kind even wish it was a 3800 or 4000 they are so damn tight on the street for their stall size

Yes please, let's hear more about the 3400 stall converters! Sounds like they might be the best bang for the buck, for a street only car. Hmmm... I don't mean to start a converter war here, but I hear more about Yank converters than Fuddle. Although Fuddle seems cheaper than the Yank. Do both companies produce a 3400 stall converter?
