C6 Automatic 6 speed

C6 Automatic 6 speed
If i'm correct the 2005 C6 came with the automatic 5 speed and the 2006 with the automatic 6 speed correct? I was curious if anyone has started to swap any C6 automatics into Gen III/IV F-bodies. I would really like to run a 4.10 rear end gear but with the A4 it just wont have enough freeway pull and top out quickly. Anyone swap one over yet?

All C6 trannies are 4 speeds, except the 06 C6 which has a 6 speed automatic. There was a thread around here about someone cutting out the back of the f body to mount the Corvette tranny which is rear mounted. As for the 6 speed versions (frount mounted) on the new Escalades I do not think anyone has done it yet. But is only a matter of time before it happens.

I personally cannot wait for the Escalade or C6 trannsmission to become available. The issue of 3.73s vs 4.10s in an automatic trans would most likely dissapear as you probably could run 4.56 gears, even though we really dont have that much lack of tq, with the 6 speed auto. What about the bellhousing for the escalade trans? Im not sure if that will bolt right up to the LS1 block as well as the computer programming issue from going from an A4 to an A6... I wouldnt be suprised some of the M6 guys switch over to the A6.

I doubt you'll want 4.56s. The C6 six speed is designed for low numerical rear gears. IIRC first gear is 4.02, so stock 3.23s would give you a lot of gear - almost as much as running 4.33s with a 4L60e.
The 6 speeds still suffers from a huge 1-2 drop in ratio and it remains to be seen as to whether it can handle being run hard in 450+ RWHP car.

Here are the gear ratios
First gear 4.02
Second gear 2.36
Third gear 1.53
Fourth gear 1.15
Fifth gear 0.85
Sixth gear 0.67
Reverse 3.06
Final drive ratio 2.56
As far as I know, the LS7 is only available with the six speed manual tranny.

Just an FYI for you ... the 6L80E was proved (durability and strength) behind a 9.3L engine. YES, I said 9.3L. I think it can handle a 450rwhp car high RPMs (6500+) will be a different matter.

Engine HP is not impressive and I'm guessing the gearbox torque reflects the torque converter multiplier.
