Default Converter: good and bad news

Well I took the car to the track yesterday still on 35 series street tires un-tuned. Car went a best of 12.841 and went 12.841-12.877 all day long and I ended up runner up in street braket class 7 rounds. So I am extremely happy since I have very limited mods to the car. Bad news is that I am still not getting the converter to long it doesn't even try to but the computer is showing its locked on the scanner. I have 1100.00 bucks now in this damn thing and still 70mph at 3200 rpm. The trans shop that did the install put a bunch of other things in the trand to "fix" this and not fixed yet. John at fuddle is sending another converter out though so we'll see.

The computer controls lockup, not the converter. It sounds like you have a tuning issue. This is a very common problem. I suggest doing a search on "converter not locking".

I was having the same problem. Mine would lock and unlock randomly. It is fixed now. It was a tuning issue. The computer thought it was slipping.

Mine used to do the same thing. Check for ANY random misfire codes, even few and far between. If the PCM detects ANY misfires in the cycle count, it will prevent the converter from locking up.

I always know I can leave it to you to sound like a complete idiot. Thank you for reminding me of that and that you know nothing about what you are talking about.

As has been said, look in the tune! The converter can't lock itself, and it can't keep itself from locking.

I will put my yank up against any other car that has a fuddle anyday with the same mods, and i bet i know which one will last longer and perform better, he said he fixed everything with the trans and has spent over 1100 dollars with getting new converters, i love how people get so defensive about there products they have, why the hell is he getting a new converter if it isn't the problem....what is your answer to that!! It was just an opinion buddy

You are the one who is so defensive. Every time someone has a problem with Yank and their “customer service,” you flip cause in your mind, Yank can do no wrong. And every time some one so much as says Fuddle, you fly off the handle saying that can’t be right cause I don’t have a fuddle, so they suck. You will never know that Fuddle is better until you try it for yourself. You want a real comparison race, get a 3600 HP/Street Fuddle converter and put it in your car. That converter is less than you paid for your Yank and a much better converter. Try it out yourself and see whether you get better times.

And for the record, John at Fuddle is a stand up guy who totally stands behind his converters. Search around, you will see that he has offered to give new converters even when he said the converter wasn’t the problem, just to reassure the customer. Would your precious Yank do that?

if you purchase a converter from a JUNK yard and it does not work properly, they simply keep on replacing it with annother one , untill you get one that works!! Sounds like great customer service too me also, dont you think? Now you can buy race parts from who ever you like, but when they say NO BREAK IN NECESSARY,well i would be a little uncertain about something like a converter that contains wear parts in it.Now im not in the transmission business BUT i can tell you, my YANK converter was broken in by YANKS instructions and now has OVER --500-- passes down the quarter mile without a FAILURE!! so judge for yorself, some times things cost more for a reason,IMO,id rather spend my time racing other than pulling my trans in and out!!

Arguing about what company makes the best converter is just plain ridiculous. Both companies make good converters or they wouldn't be in business. As to why Fuddle is sending a new converter....it's called customer service. Will it correct the problem? No....it won't. All the labor invoved to change out the converter will be for nothing because the computer controls lockup and unlocking. Slvr98z28 will find out that Fuddles good customer service won't fix his problem and that a trip to a tuner will be what it takes to get his converter to operate properly.

listen I don't think any of you guys understand. I have no codes, no misfires, no unlock and lock, xhanged evrything in the trans that contrls lockup, grounded the 32 pin on the computer to try to manually lock converter still nothing. the scanners all show that it is locked but it never does.

Jon's paying for the labor on the install of the second convertor???? That's ******* customer service! I hope I don't have this problem but if I do hopefully Jon will be as helpful to me as he was to you... Good luck brother.
