Default Front pump seal keeps failing with my Yank 3500 Converter.

Anyone else have this problem? I have about 1500 miles on my super yank 3500 converter install and am leaking trans fluid AGAIN. The front pump seal failed on first install (leaking out of the shop)and again last Fall after 1000 miles. Here it is spring again and guess what, puddle of fluid under my tranny. So what do I do?

First install, bad seal directly from the shop, second seal lasted at most 1000 miles, third seal now leaking.

Yank says it is not the converter, installer says all the pump seals have been put in right. (I like my installer and I am sure he did it right)

HELP!

very frustrated

Have your trans guy check the bushing in the pump cover for wear, or spinning up into the seal. most of the time it's the bushing thats the problem, not the seal.If both of those look good, then have the runout checked on the converter hub.

Chuch, where do I find the bushing that could be the cause of the problem?

It's in the pump body side of the pump assembly

I am so tired of this problem, 1 year with a leaking tranny, three pump seals, and now it looks like I will have to take out the torque converter and ship it bank to yank for a checkout. LATEST DOWNTIME: 1 month!! <img border="0" alt="[fight]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_punch.gif" />

My SY3500 has never leaked. It's been in and out a couple of times. Just an FYI...

If you're doing the labor, why don't you replace the bushing per Chucks' post, and take the converter to a machine shop to check the runout? Might be a quicker turnaround, esp. if there's no problem with the converter hub.

Check to make sure you have the proper converter to flexplate spacing. Friend of mine killed his front pump because there was too much of a space.
