Okay guys ...I just want to point something out for those that might be following this thread, who don't have much or any experience with converters.

I've seen a couple comments in this thread referring to the yank 4400 as a "High stall" or "loose" as compared to the vig 3600.

I'm not sure what is up with that, unless PI made a drastic change or something...which I doubt.

My vig 3600 I ran in my H/C car typically flash stalled off the line at 43-4600 rpm. Driveability wise the the vig was looser feeling around town.

The vig3600 was definatelty a hard hitting converter, but it gave up so much on the top end I had to change out.

The other guys I know locally who have run this converter tend to flash stall the same as mine did. I don't know how high it flashes behind a bolton only car though.

Pain, i notice when i look at my rpms when i flash the verter it jumps to 4000 most of the time.. but on shifts she only drops to 5200 at WOT

on atap it generally shows a 3800-3900 flash at WOT

as far as looseness goes, im just going by the fact that mostly everyone says the 4400 is a little more looser than the 3600 under normal driving. The only way i would know would be if i drove a 4400 car myself

DriveaTA, I was actually there that day, 1.8 60s all day with the reg. street tires. Went 12.84 w/just the 'verter and lid.

Awsome track prep. at 41

Nice commentary "Roy can't do burnouts"?

Just read this thread. I think both converters are excellent. But if you look at the fastest one's on here, they're all using Yanks. Now that's far from conclusive proof, but more of an observation.

And this, BTW, is bullshit:

don't post here much or read the board much, but I gonna take a guess and say the fastest members here are the fastest because they've dumped >$15,000-$20,000 in to thier engines from MTI or Agostino 396ci to 4-- what ever ci and happen to choose Yank

346 here.....

My Vig dropped TOO much rpm between shifts
(6700 shifts and dropped to 5300}It can be fixed with a stall upgrade.Only problem is it'll lose more hp unlocked.

So I went back to a Yank.My new UT4600 should only drop 1100rpm MAX in between shifts.

Daves right u cant argue with ET's

If you got an all out race car and don`t care about drivability then the 4k+ stall speed Yanks are for you...or if that kind of stall doesn`t bother you it`s the best converter out there.

I don`t care if the Yank would give me 3 sec over the Vig. (which it won`t) i care about everyday driving... no codes.. no balooned hubs... perfect balancing.. no glazed lock up clutches... no vibrations... Tight around town yet still looose enought to get good times.. that`s perfect for me I`ll never be the fastest with that converter...it`s not what I care about. If I was going for all out I~d most likely go with Yank.

Heads, cam, headers etc.... been there done that.. didn`t care for all the B.S. that went along with it.The break downs, the loss of drivability, the money pit... Took the car back to stock, sold it bought a Waverunner and started all over with something I could drive and enjoy everyday and still get good #`s with. 70mph on water is fun too

The Yanks are definately F-body specific, many to choose from and more efficient.

Personally, I`ll give up efficiency and lose a tenth or two anyday in order to gain drivability and in some cases reliability.

It`s not which one is better.. IT`s which one is better for you

Just my .02

I put a Vig3600 in my stockhead, cam only Lt1 car and ran a best of 1.59 shorttime but I felt like the converter was hitting to far above my peak power and was to loose down the track. I had the converter restalled to a vig3200 and since have run a 1.51 shortime and 11.66 114.62. I don't manually lock the converter or any other tricks. I plan on leaving the engine combo alone but lighten the car a bit and am hopeing for high 1.40's in 60ft. Stay tuned Frank95z

yea, i thought the "roy cant do a burnout" was quite funny . i guess cause i dont do it for 20 seconds its not good enough...but good enough for a 1.55

Vig & Yank both suck. B&M is the best!

vig2800 is a great convertor!
12.10 @ 113
best 60FT : 1.65
I'd sport a TP4400 in a minute though.

If the Colonel were to put a Vig3600 in his car and for arguements sake lose .5 off his ET in the switch, he'd still be the fastest NA car on the board. And then everyone would be talking about how the top guy runs a Vig. I think this is what he was getting at. But if there were someone within a half tenth and I lost a half tenth with the Vig then I'd be in second place. Wait, isn't the SAM car with a half tenth of me? Glad I'm running a Yank!

"The Yanks are definately F-body specific"

Actually, I turned a couple of my local old-school Mustang friends on to Yank converters and now they swear by them. These are mid to low 10 second cars.
