Default Just a general question

I was reading an old thread yesterday, (bored at work) and it was about people deciding what was better for racing.....that is when they raced did they leave it in D (overdrive) or 3 (drive) or shift through all the gears 1-2-3-D....It was pretty much split between D and 3. Well it got me thinking . When I drive around town and on the highway I always use D. But yesterday when I took the car out I kept it in 3. And of course I put it into D on the highway on the way to work this morning. I am just wondering what you all do for driving around town.....

I also thought of something else. Just curious....When you all stage to do a burnout, do you do it in 1, 3, or D? . . . . . . . . . THANKS

I just always leave mine in D... The car knows what to do.

Same here, leave it in D (overdrive) for driving and 1st gear for burnouts.

i race my camaro in D, not OD...reason being...when i let off the gas at the top end of the track, if it is in OD it will shift to 4th quickly, i'd rather not beat on my overdrive that often.

computer shifting > manual shifting.

also...who stays in 1st with a burnout? i run 2nd out and if i can't see smoke in the mirror, i shift to 3rd. i have 373s and 26" tall tires, also. i like to make sure the tires are hot. one less variable when trying to execute a good hook with a 4k stall.

I have my tune set so that the converter does not lock
in 3rd, so I will put it in 3rd (D) for situations where I
want no locking or more responsive shifting (no waiting
for unlock, downshift sequence). But 4th (OD) for usual
leisurely cruising.

I have seen some people assert there are differences in
the internal action, based on selector position. But have
not gotten any real, verifiable detail.
