Trans slips when turning....?
Ok, this has been going on for a while and I helped the problem a little bit by adding more trans fluid, but according to the dipstick it is full now.
Basically when I turn sharp and get on the gas a little bit the trans slips for a second or two. It was much worse before I put more trans fluid in (it was almost 2 quarts low, I didn't realize it was leaking).
So did I maybe screw something up runing it so low for so long ? What is wrong ??
Also, it seems like the torque converter is maybe having trouble locking up or seems to kind of wobble a little just before lockup, it is a stock torque converter AFAIK.

I think mine is doing this also, but I have plenty of fluid.
Does yours do it when you turn right or left?
Mine usually does it when im making one particular turn, its up a hill and to the right.
I just had mine rebuilt.
Id like to get some answers on this too...

lol, thats about the most odd correlation I've ever heard for a tranny problem. I'm not saying you're wrong, but its odd.
It almost sounds like a torque converter issue, but it shouldn't just happen when you're turning. The converter is the only thing that could/should slip while you're in gear and turning at lower speeds.

My 'glide in the El Camino does this to let me
know it's done spooging its juice all over the
driveway and wants more.
So you have it all the way to the top of the
fill zone?
Wonder if you have a filter that's messed up,
maybe jammed up so high in the hole that it
loses suction during slosh?

Your trans has to be really low on fluid or missing the transmission oil filter. These are the only two things that I can think of that will cause a slip when turning. Good luck, Vince.

It does feel like the torque converter , its just feels wobbly.
And vince, once I get a daily driver and some cash saved up (early 07) I will probably be giving you guys a call for a rebuild or something like that.

I have had the same problem with my 2000 L67 swapped supercharged Monte Carlo SS. Its been slipping out of gear on hard turns now for 3 years. I even had the tranny rebuilt and still does it. I know its a different tranny but could still be the same general problem...?

See, this is why I like the truck pan & filter - much
more slosh room before you start sucking air.
You might check harness connections too though,
just to make sure something intermittent isn't
just wiggling loose as the cable flops.

If you add fluid and it stops slipping, then you have solved the problem. Make a new full mark on the dipstick. That should do it. There have been other transmissions that have done this over the years, and overfilling them a little has solved many of the problems. TH400's are the most sensitive to the correct fluid level, overfilling them is a no-no, but others just the opposite.

you might have a crack in the filter tube or the seal is leaking sor the filter tube....when its overfull it covers the crack....this wouls also explain the turning issue when the fluid moves to one side of the pan it uncovers the crack ............i have had this happen as matter of fact that is how i got my 1994 t/a in 1999 for 4,000 they thought the tranny ws bad i was going to build it i took it out tore it apart and evrything was fine then i found the crack in the filter tube lol

i'd get the tranny flushed and the filter changed before i tried messing with the fluid levels. fluid level changes increase pressure and can damage things. i'm gonna vote for the crack in the filter, or many a very clogged filter. it's probably throwing your pressure off and causing slippage.

pull the pan off get a 15 dollar filter kit and replace it put new fluid to the correct level and see if the problem remains also make sure to change the seal that the tube goes into it may be old and hardened....if this doesnt work you have a problem
