Default Best converter for NA 427, PT4000 or PT4400?

I currently have the SY3500 converter along with 3.73 gears in my C5. This combo is very similar to stock & I can definitely tolerate more looseness for the extra performance. Therefore, Iam thinking about upgrading to a more aggressive converter this summer. I have made my decision to go with either PT4000 (2.2 STR, 96% efficiency) or PT 4400 (2.5 STR, 95% efficiency).

I would like to hear your opinions on which converter would suit me better. I take my car to the drag strip about once or twice a month, and I only drive it on weekends.

Keep in mind that I have a 427 motor & I'll be running NA only. I currently have 26" ET Streets at the back & Iam planning to run only those at the track (cannot run the 28" slicks in my C5). Iam not sure if those would hook enough (assuming proper track prep).

Appreciate all opinions

What does that SY 3500 stall to now?
A YTP 4400 behind a 427 will stall to 4800 or more, a 4000 will probably be a better bet.
The YTP 4000 will definitely give a nice increase; however you may have to peddle it on launch. You might look at just upgrading to a SY 4000, depending upon whether you dead hook now. I'm under the impression that vettes are a little harder to hook up, so the lower STR may be a benefit.

Thanks for the reply. My current SY3500 doesn't stall more than ~3700rpm. I almost dead hook with that converter with 17 psi at the back & shitty burnout. With lower pressure & good burnout I should be able to handle a bigger converter.

I did consider the SY4000 as an upgrade, but I really like the shift extension & roll power of the YTP series.

Don't I recall you not being happy with your current short times? I like the idea of the YPT4000 in your setup but I'd try to get more out of the SY before giving up on that combo. JimP runs a 4000 or 4200 + 3.73s behind his new 427, dunno if he's made it to the track much yet. He might be able to provide some insightful feedback.

Oh yeah, are you foot braking or flash stalling?

I will be changing the converter sometime in July-August. Until then I will be doing more runs with the SY3500. The problem with that converter is that it does not hit hard & I find it tricky to get a good 60' (tried both brake & flash stalling). Besides, I only get ~4800rpm shift extension & that puts me away from my power band.

JimP has the YTP4000 with 2.7 STR I believe. He never tried it with the 427 yet, but with head/cam he was able to get a 1.64 60' with spinning ET streets (he never did a burnout).

On my 396 I found the TP4400 was a bit too large, I only had 800rpm between shifts. I'd suggest the TP4000-TP4200.
